Plaza Vieja Neighborhood Plan work session set for April 22

La Plaza Vieja Neighborhood PlanFLAGSTAFF — Neighborhood residents, businesses and interested members of the Flagstaff community are encouraged to attend a Planning and Zoning Commission work session at 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 22 at City Hall, the City of Flagstaff reported in a media release.

City staff seeks feedback from the commissioners and the public on a draft Plan for the La Plaza Vieja Neighborhood. This work session is an opportunity for residents’ input to be incorporated before an official 60 day public review draft is distributed.

“It is important that residents have a lot of early opportunities to review the Plan and ensure it reflects their values. The City will present several iterations of the Plan over the next 6 months in order to foster transparency and open communication with the public,” said Sara Dechter, the city’s comprehensive planning manager.

The 60-day public review draft Plan is scheduled for release in early May and reflects the feedback heard at three public workshops held in January 2015. The workshops focused on a wide range of issues relating to traffic and pedestrian safety, land use, community character and preservation.

The Plan contains background information about the neighborhood, goals, policies and implementation strategies that promote the preservation of neighborhood character and provide guidelines for commercial and residential reinvestment. The city’s Comprehensive Planning Division wants to ensure that the Plaza Vieja Neighborhood Plan aligns with the recently adopted Flagstaff Regional Plan 2030, and works to steer compatible development in the area over the next several years.
