There are 1,800 young volcanoes in the Southwest. Should we be worried?
No, according to a study co-authored by emeritus professor Michael Ort. The work presents a broad survey of monogenetic volcanoes younger than 2.58 million years in the U.S. Southwest. Monogenetic volcanoes only “live” once, but they still represent an important piece in the geological puzzle in Flagstaff and the surrounding region.
