NIGHTCAP: Thursday, August 4

Join us for NIGHTCAP at Coconino Center for the Arts. NIGHTCAP provides a twilight viewing experience 6-9 pm on the first and third Thursdays of each month. Evening hours enable viewing of the exterior video installation SKYGLOWPROJECT (8-9 pm), and an intimate exhibition experience in the gallery. $10 suggested donation, free for CCA members. Beer, wine, cocktails, and other refreshments available for purchase, including the exclusive NIGHTCAP beer from Dark Sky Brewing Company!

About Tyrrell Tapaha:

Tyrrell Tapaha demonstrates modernity at its finest. Anyone who knows him on a personal level understands that his work ethic and mentality are the driving forces in his career. Making kindred impressions, Tyrrell paves his own way through life as a young artist emphasizing his uniqueness as an individual.

Many of Tyrrell’s works have been inspired by the community and love that is present within the Flagstaff area. An avid supporter of the Flagstaff arts scene, it is common to see him processing fiber or weaving in public spaces. He also engages and educates his audience about his medium, culture, and way of life, using archaic media to talk about present day problems.

SKYGLOWPROJECT

SKYGLOW is an ongoing crowdfunded project spanning 150,000 miles and 3,000,000 pictures taken, which explores North America’s remaining magnificent night skies and the grave threat of light pollution to our fragile environment. A collaboration of renowned timelapse photographers Gavin Heffernan and Harun Mehmedinovic, SKYGLOW journeys through the history and mythology of celestial observation, the proliferation of electrical outdoor lighting that spurred the rise of the phenomena known as “skyglow,” and the Dark Sky Movement that’s fighting to reclaim the night skies.

See SKYGLOWPROJECT at Coconino Center for the Arts during dusk (8-9 pm) at our NIGHTCAP events on August 4th & 18th, and at the NightVisions: Cultural Interpretations of the Night Sky closing reception on Saturday, August 27th.

NightVisions presents: Dark Sky Quartet

Dark Sky Quartet brings together violinists Allison O’Bryant and David Koerner, violist Kimberly Sullivan, and cellist Mary Anne Bruner to adorn the landscapes and skyscapes of Northern Arizona with befitting works of chamber music. They will perform works inspired by the night sky, including Flagstaff premiers of Babcock’s quartet Watcher of the Sky on the life of astronomer George Ellery Hale and the Sky Quartet of Jennifer Higdon as well as Jupiter and Saturn from The Planets by Gustav Holst.
