With the approach of Thanksgiving, it’s worth taking a moment to reflect on the people who make this holiday possible. Many of the fruits, vegetables, and other staples of our Thanksgiving feasts are harvested by immigrant farm workers.
On November 5, voters gathered in cities and states across the country to cast ballots on immigrant-related issues, like immigration protections, integration, and noncitizen voting. Here are the results of some key ballot measures.
FACTS YOU SHOULD KNOW
America’s food supply depends on immigrant workers, including those on H-2A visas and those who are undocumented. In fruit and vegetable crop production, 49.6% of the workforce is comprised of immigrants.

“The government will do things that hurt people. It will do things that look scary. But how many people will be caught up in a deportation machine, and how quickly, is by no means a settled question — and it’s one that a public sympathetic to immigrants should continue to care about the answer to.”
