Tap into your creativity, make new friends, and explore a variety of art forms in this engaging six-week sampler class just for adults 55 and older. Whether you’re brand-new to art or returning after years away, our professional teaching artists will guide you through storytelling, drawing, painting, art journaling, and mixed media in a fun, supportive environment.

Sept 8 — Storytelling with Claire Obermarck Discover the magic of traditional British & Celtic folktales and learn how to craft and share your own stories in an interactive, inspiring session.
Sept 15 — Drawing in Pencil with Ed Buonvecchio Learn the essentials of line, shading, and form while capturing the world around you with just a pencil and paper.
Sept 22 — Drawing in New Mediums with Ed Buonvecchio Explore charcoal, ink, and other tools to add depth, texture, and variety to your drawing skills.
Sept 29 — Acrylic Painting with Patricia Saxton Play with color, light, and brushwork to create your own expressive acrylic masterpiece.
Oct 6 — Art Journaling with Julie Richard Combine words, sketches, and mementos to create a personal visual journal that tells your story.
Oct 13 — Mixed Media with Patricia Saxton Layer paint, collage, and found materials to produce a textured, one-of-a-kind artwork.
Meet Your Instructors: Our teaching team includes master storyteller Claire Obermarck, plein air artist Ed Buonvecchio, painter and illustrator Patricia Saxton, and arts leader and journal enthusiast Julie Richard. Together, they bring decades of artistic expertise and a passion for helping others discover the joy of creativity
Creative Aging for 55+ September 8 – October 13, 2025 – Mondays, 10am–12pm
Creative Aging is the practice of engaging older adults in participatory, professionally run arts programs with a focus on social engagement and skills building. This program is for people ages 55+ and is also open to participants and their caregivers.
Explore different art mediums in this Creative Aging Sampler Class led by Sedona Arts Center artists. This class is for ages 55 and older interested in tapping into their creativity and trying out different art forms. Participants will try their hand at storytelling, drawing, painting, and more. No experience necessary! Instructors will include Claire Obermarck, Ed Buonvecchio, Patricia Saxton and Julie Richard.
