Communications Issue #40:

Introducing F3’s Community Speaker Series

First in Series: September 4th at 6:00 pm

F3 is excited to introduce the first speaker in our new Community Speaker Series!

This series will focus on bringing people to Flagstaff who will provide important ideas about how we can build a resilient community.

F3’s speaker series is timed to coincide with the Flagstaff community’s review of the city’s Draft Regional Land Use Plan. Public review of the Plan started this month and will continue until May 2026, when Flagstaff residents will have the opportunity to vote on it in a special election.

F3’s goal between now and the May election is to provide information to the Flagstaff community that will help you in understanding the Draft Regional Plan’s priorities and policies, while providing a better understanding of what this means for our community.  This speaker series is one avenue we’re pursuing.

F3’s mission and focus areas overlap with much of the Strong Towns mission and advocacy work. I was excited to attend the Strong Towns National Gathering in Providence this summer and meet their staff as well as hundreds of community members who are working to address many of the same issues as we are in Flagstaff.

Strong Towns operates with the mission of replacing America’s post-war pattern of development, the Suburban Experiment, with a pattern of development that is financially strong and resilient. Strong Towns advocates for cities of all sizes to be safe, livable, and inviting. They work to elevate local government to be the highest level of collaboration for people seeking to work together in a place, not merely the lowest level in a hierarchy of governments.

With a media presence reaching millions of people every year and a membership of nearly 3,000 people from all 50 states and several countries, the Strong Towns movement is reshaping the North American development pattern with a return to bottom-up, incremental growth. You can check out their work at StrongTowns.org
