Anatomy of the Horse with Shelly Hackett January 10-11, 2026
In this two-day workshop, we’ll explore the beauty and power of the horse—from initial study to a finished painting. We’ll begin with pencil sketches that focus on key connections of form, building an understanding of equine anatomy through the relationships of bone, muscle, and movement.
With this foundation, we’ll shift into paint. Starting with an abstract under-painting, we’ll block in light, shadow, and gesture before refining the piece with expressive, impressionistic brushwork. By the end, you’ll know how to recognize when a painting is complete and leave with a finished work that captures both your style and the spirit of the horse.
Palette Knife Landscape Painting with Renee Stevens January 13-15, 2026 Discover how to achieve striking realism using impressionistic techniques. Working from landscape photographs with strong light, color temperature, and shadow, you’ll create dynamic paintings using only oils or acrylics, a single 1⅝” painting knife, gloves, and paper towels. This focused approach simplifies the process while sharpening your eye — and most participants complete 3–5 finished paintings in just three days.
