Oil Painting Immersion with Patricia Saxton January 22 – February 26, 2026
Whether you’re a seasoned artist or picking up a brush for the first time, this 6-week class presents a great opportunity to explore the essentials of oil painting—from composition to color mixing, blending, glazing, and finishing—while building the confidence to experiment and shape your unique style; all with plenty of personalized guidance provided.
One of the beauties of painting with oils is its forgiving nature. A creamy consistency and slow drying time gives you the freedom to rework, refine, or even completely reimagine your work without pressure. With that in mind, you can choose to focus on a single painting throughout the class, or create several, letting each evolve between sessions. We’ll provide inspiring subject matter to spark your creativity, but you’re certainly welcome to bring your own vision to life.

Centered: TEEN’S Beginner Wheel Throwing with Laura “Lolo” Aileen Howe January 28 – March 4, 2026
A fun, beginner-friendly pottery class just for teens! Designed for ages 13–18, this hands-on course teaches the basics of wheel throwing — from centering clay to shaping bowls and mugs — in a relaxed, creative studio environment. No experience needed, just curiosity and a willingness to get messy.
You’ll learn essential techniques, explore surface decoration and glazing, and get plenty of time on the wheel through demos, guided practice, and open studio sessions. Small class sizes mean personalized help every step of the way.
Tuition includes your first bag of clay, glazes, firings, and weekly open studio access. Tools are provided, with optional kits available for purchase. ESA funds and scholarships are available.
Exploring and Developing Glazes with John Post January 27 – March 3, 2026 – Tuesdays, 1-4pm
This course provides a comprehensive introduction to the creation and modification of ceramic glazes. Students will begin by learning how to read glaze recipes and accurately prepare liquid glaze batches. Building on this foundation, the course explores techniques for developing multiple glaze variations from a limited number of initial batches.

The Creative Practice of Keeping a Commonplace Book with Kristine Crandall January 27 – February 17, 2026
Are you looking for a way to keep track of quotes, anecdotes, ideas, or other observations that grab your attention? This may be just the class for you. We will explore the benefits and techniques of keeping a commonplace book, a note-taking practice with a long history among naturalists, artists, and writers. The commonplace approach provides a way to record whatever comes up in daily life that inspires curiosity and invites reflection and creativity. As the class progresses, we will work on our own commonplace books, share what we learn about ourselves and the world, and explore ideas that emerge for creative projects.
The Joy of Painting: A Bob Ross Class with DJones
January 28, 2026, Wednesday, 1–4pm
Tap into your inner artist and experience the joy of painting — Bob Ross style! In this fun, hands-on workshop, a Certified Ross Instructor will guide you step-by-step through creating your own landscape masterpiece using traditional Bob Ross wet-on-wet oil techniques. Learn how to paint happy little trees, soft clouds, and serene mountain scenes in just three hours.
All materials are included, and all skill levels are welcome — no experience needed! Ages 12 and up can participate with an adult, making this a perfect creative outing for families or friends. Come paint, relax, and discover just how happy art can be.

This class is perfect for students eager to develop and advance their pottery skills in a fun, supportive environment. Using the potter’s wheel, slab roller, extruder, and texture tools, you’ll experiment with both functional and decorative techniques to bring your creative ideas to life. Small class sizes ensure personalized instruction tailored to your skill level and goals. Whether you’re a beginner building your foundation or an experienced student refining your craft, you’ll gain confidence and learn essential techniques. Materials—including 25 pounds of clay, glazes, firings, and weekly open studio access—are included, with optional pottery tool kits available for purchase.

Re-imagining Ancient Forms with Ben Roti January 30 – March 6, 2026 – Fridays, 9am–12pm
In this unique hand-building class, students will explore the fascinating world of historical pottery by re-imagining ancient forms and techniques through a contemporary lens. Students will choose an iconic historical pot or ceramic vessel and recreate it using modern materials and personal interpretation. This course blends traditional craftsmanship with innovative design, allowing students to learn from the past while creating something entirely their own.
Beading Magic: A Creative Jewelry Workshop with V Norton February 7, 2026 – 10am–1pm
Discover the beauty of beads and the joy of creating something from the heart in this beginner-friendly jewelry-making workshop, where you’ll learn the essentials of designing and crafting your own beaded necklace and earrings—perfect as a personal keepsake or a meaningful gift. Working with exquisite materials such as black onyx, Arizona jasper, shells, tiger eye, turquoise, amethyst, and shimmering crystal accents, you can choose a simple, elegant design or explore something more intricate if you have experience. By the end of class, you’ll leave with a handcrafted necklace and earrings filled with meaning and memory—an unforgettable Valentine’s-inspired creation made during a magical day at Sedona Arts Center.
Horses in Motion with Shelly Hackett February 18, 2026 – Wed 10am–3pm
Using reference materials provided by the instructor, we will study the horse from a variety of perspectives—front, back, and three-quarter views—as well as explore the dynamics of different gaits, including the trot, canter, gallop, jumping, and bending.By examining equine anatomy, we will learn how to capture the horse in motion while maintaining accuracy of form. Through a series of exploratory sketches, students will develop their ideas and refine their work toward a finished composition.
Ultra-Textural Mixed Media Weaving on a Simple Loom with Vicki Assegued February 20 – 22, 2026 – Fri–Sun 10am–5pm
Learn a variety of stitches and techniques to create unique woven artworks using a simple loom provided for you. You’ll explore yarns, fabric, and optional embellishments like lace, ribbon, shells, and found objects to build textures and forms—from structured and symmetrical to loose and abstract—while also learning to make tassels, pompoms, and fringe. No experience is necessary, and by the end of class you’ll leave with finished weavings ready to hang, your reusable loom, and the skills to continue this relaxing and versatile art form at home.
Drawing II: The Next Level with Ed Buonvecchio February 23 – March 30, 2026 – Mondays 9am–12pm
“Drawing II: The Next Level” builds on the fundamentals of Drawing Level I and is ideal for students with basic experience or artists ready to jump in. In this six-week studio class, you’ll develop stronger skills and confidence through guided exercises that focus on drawing what you see and imagine, including still lifes, the human figure, landscapes, and linear perspective. Working with pencil, charcoal, ink, and brush, students will deepen their understanding of line, value, shape, and composition while building a confident, expressive drawing practice.
Scholarships are an important part of Sedona Arts Center. It has a long history in providing students in need of financial assistance, the ability to hone their skills and creative talents. Art classes and workshops also allow an emotional break from daily life and offer social interaction with fellow lovers of art.
