United Way of Northern Arizona — Give Books Today for Love of Reading Month

The latest news from UWNA. View as Webpage

February is ‘Love of Reading’ month, and it’s a celebration that is close to our hearts here at United Way of Northern Arizona. Literacy is key to our work supporting early childhood development and – fueled by your generosity – we help instill that love of reading every day.

We foster it through our signature KinderCamp™ program, making sure that every child entering kindergarten knows their letters. With Read On Arizona, we hold multiple literacy fairs each year for elementary school students. And each month, more than 3,500 children receive the gift of a free book because of our partnership with the Dolly Parton Imagination Library.

Below are two stories about the importance of early childhood literacy to our youth in northern Arizona. You’ll discover why the Dolly Parton Imagination Library focuses on children from birth to age 5. Our second story explores why early interventions like DPIL are essential in our state, where two-thirds of third graders are not reading at grade level.

Meanwhile, we’re in the final few weeks of the Love of Community campaign. Your donation will help continue our work with DPIL and support other early childhood development programs in Coconino, Navajo, and Apache counties.

Thank you for showing that United is the Way to improve reading proficiency for our youth in northern Arizona.

Instilling a Love of Reading from Day One. Why does the Dolly Parton Imagination Library focus on providing gift books to children from birth to age 5? Because reading to a baby or toddler lays the foundation for communication and a love of reading. Find out more about this program and the thousands of children in northern Arizona impacted.

Collaborating with partners statewide, including United Way of Northern Arizona, Read On Arizona is advancing the strategies, policies, and investments needed for all Arizona children to learn to read at grade level and be successful in school.

United Way of Northern Arizona invites you to celebrate your Love of Community and be part of our special campaign throughout February to strengthen the place we all call home.

Love of Community is about each of us playing a part in supporting youth, building stronger families, healthier communities, and a more resilient region.

Every dollar donated stays right here in northern Arizona. Whether you’re giving for the first time or renewing your commitment to our community, now is the time to show that United is the Way to make a difference for our friends and neighbors in Coconino, Navajo, and Apache county.

And here’s a sweet treat: donations made through April 15, 2026 may qualify for a dollar-for-dollar credit on your 2025 Arizona state taxes under the Arizona Charitable Tax Credit program.
