Community Update – Grand Canyon National Park

October 1, 2026

Grand Canyon Recovery and Water Conservation Efforts

The Grand Canyon community continues to come together as recovery efforts move forward following the August 29 flash flood in Bright Angel Canyon and the ongoing South Rim water emergency.

In the inner canyon, National Park Service staff, the Alpine Hotshots and the Bright Angel Creek Incident Management Team continue clearing heavy debris and mud, removing hazardous trees and re-establishing trails and facilities near Phantom Ranch. Crews are also using helicopters to transport water, equipment and other critical supplies into the canyon.

On the South Rim, Stage 4 water restrictions remain in effect, and the community’s continued conservation efforts are making a difference. Residents are encouraged to continue using the free community laundry and shower facilities, as well as designated potable water tanks, whenever possible. Bringing water for drinking and other needs when possible also helps reduce demand on the park’s limited water supply.

The park has also launched a new Bright Angel Canyon Flood Community Recovery and Resources webpage with information about water distribution, potable water locations, free laundry and shower facilities, recovery projects, community updates and ways to stay informed. Community members can also sign up for Everbridge alerts and park email updates to receive important information as conditions change.

Grand Canyon National Park thanks residents, businesses, partners and neighboring communities for their patience, cooperation and continued efforts to conserve water and support one another during this recovery. Every effort to conserve water helps.

Visit the Bright Angel Canyon Flood Community Recovery and Resources webpage for the latest information and available resources.
