Community holds dance celebration at unofficial Latino Entertainment Day at 2025 Coconino County Fair

COCONINO COUNTY — From the colorful swirling traditional costumes of female performers from Ballet Folklorico de Colores de Flagstaff, to the energizing Latino tropical beat of headliner Tropicalisimo Apache, fairgoers had plenty of entertainment to choose from at the 2025 Coconino County Fair on Sunday, Aug. 31 at Fort Tuthill, Flagstaff.

Holiday didn’t deter crowd from ‘Labor Day Protest-Workers Over Billionaires!’ at Flagstaff City Hall

A new protest, “We Say No Kings,” is scheduled for Oct. 18, 2025, officials from the national Indivisible Project reported in a media release.

FLAGSTAFF — Despite the long holiday weekend, a crowd estimated at more than 400 turned out for the “Labor Day Protest-Workers Over Billionaires!” in front of the Flagstaff City Hall.

Organized locally by Indivisible Northern AZ, the event was part of a nationwide protest against “the billionaire agenda is dismantling our government: overseeing mass firings, gutting worker protections and social services, and transferring wealth to the 1% while funding a private army of ICE agents,” the organization stated in a media release.

A sizable number of protesters carried signs calling for better wages for works, tax the 1 percent and support union workers during the afternoon rally.

Thousands of visitors filled the streets of downtown Flagstaff for 2025 Fourth of July Parade

COCONINO COUNTY — Despite scattered rains the night before, thousands of visitors crowded into downtown Flagstaff on a beautiful morning to celebrate the 2025 Annual Greater Flagstaff Chamber of Commerce/Nackard Pepsi 4th of July Parade on Friday, July 4, 2024.

The events began with a Guardian Air Transport helicopter flying overhead leading a parade featuring more than 100 entries. The Arizona Daily Sun reported between 15,000 to 20,000 people attended the annual event.

Members of the Coconino Hispanic Advisory Council (CHAC) joined the Coconino County parade entry which featured public safety vehicles, the Majestics Car Club of Flagstaff, marching bands and other entries.

City of Flagstaff holds swearing in ceremony for new Chief of Police

Sean Connolly, center, was officially sworn in as Flagstaff Chief of Police at a ceremony held during the City Council’s work session on June 25.

Connolly, who takes over from retiring Chief of Police Dan Musselman, was sworn in during an event attended by family, friends, law enforcement officials from Phoenix and Chandler — and a surprise bagpipe performance by City of Flagstaff Senior Assistant City Attorney Marianne E. Sullivan.

Connolly, who was born in Flagstaff, served in the Phoenix Police Dept. for more than 30 years in such capacities as police commander and assistant police chief. He earned his master’s degree in educational leadership from Northern Arizona University, and a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Arizona.

Community celebrates renaming county park for former District Supervisor Elizabeth ‘Liz’ Archuleta

Under often Monsoon storming skies, more than 100 community members gathered at the now former Sawmill Multicultural Art and Nature County Park to rename the park for former District Supervisor Elizabeth ‘Liz’ Archuleta.

Sheltered under the large canopy, well-wishers gathered to hear speeches from members of the Coconino County Board of Supervisors, local officials, friends, and most movingly family members of Archuleta on Aug. 13.

The event also included live music, park tours, children’s activities, a book signing, and recognition of the new amenities at the park, including a new mural design.
