City of Flagstaff hosts three upcoming sustainability events (April 18, 25 and May 2)

FLAGSTAFF — The City of Flagstaff Sustainability Office invites community members to join three signature events this spring: the Earth Day Celebration on April 18, Drop Off Day on April 25, and the Fix-It Clinic on May 2.

Earth Day Celebration

The annual Earth Day Celebration will be on Saturday, April 18 at Bushmaster Park from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. Listen to live music, attend a free workshop, eat food from a local food truck, and discover dozens of sustainable-minded organizations and activities.

Want to be part of the action? Volunteers are needed for setup and takedown, waste prevention, bike valet, fire-wise and invasive plant removal, and even being Albert‘s (mascot) secret service! Please come prepared with weather-appropriate clothing and water. Sign up at Volunteer Flagstaff: Calendar.

This event aims to be accessible to all community members. American Sign Language (ASL) translators will be available to translate all workshops and wheelchair-accessible parking and ramps will be available.  Drop Off Day

The City of Flagstaff Sustainability Office, Flagstaff Police Department, and Coconino County invite you to attend Drop-Off Day event on Saturday, April 25 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Coconino County Health and Human Services building (2625 N King St) to properly dispose of batteries, lightbulbs, expired medications and more. At Drop-off Day, the following items will be accepted:

  • Expired or unwanted medications, vitamins, or supplements
  • Aerosol cans
  • Batteries
  • CFLs (light bulbs)/ fluorescent tubes/LEDs
  • Electronic waste such as computers and printers
  • Medical syringes
  • Sensitive documents for onsite shredding (2 boxes per vehicle max)

The following items are not accepted:

  • CRT televisions
  • Liquid waste such as latex paint, cough syrup, and other chemicals
  • Illegal drugs
  • Car seats
  • Commercial waste

Fix-It Clinic

Join a dedicated group of volunteers on Saturday, May 2 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Joe C. Montoya Community & Senior Center (245 N. Thorpe Rd). Fix-It Clinics are community-driven events that pair community members with knowledgeable volunteers who can help fix small appliances, clothing, electronics, and more! Join us for a day of hands-on sustainability and learn how simple repairs can make a big difference.
