FLAGSTAFF — The City of Flagstaff Sustainability Office and Sustainability Commission announce the opening of applications for the Flagstaff Sustainability Grants Program. The annual funding opportunity, formally know as the Neighborhood Sustainability Grant Program, will accept applications from Aug. 15 through Sept. 30, 2025. The competitive grant program provides funding up to $7,500 for sustainability projects that strengthen community partnerships and environmental stewardship within Flagstaff city limits. Eligible applicants include community groups, nonprofits, individuals, and businesses with projects that address key sustainability priorities. Priority focus areas include energy, community health and climate resilience, food, transportation, and waste.
“We’re thrilled to support grassroots sustainability efforts that make a real difference in our community,” said Amy Wolkowinsky. “These grants empower residents and organizations to implement innovative solutions that benefit our quality of life in Flagstaff.”
The seven-member Flagstaff Sustainability Commission, composed entirely of local residents, will review and select grant recipients based on project impact, community benefit, and alignment with the city’s sustainability goals.
In 2024, the program awarded to 11 local groups and individuals for diverse sustainability initiatives. These included Elevated Gardening’s “Growing Food at High Altitude” pollinator and food workshop series, Flagstaff Water Group’s Biochar tests to clean reclaimed water, and Southside Community Association’s Service Corp program pilot.
A grant workshop will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 26 from 5:30-7:00 pm at the Flagstaff Sustainability Office (419 N Mogollon St) and virtually via Microsoft Teams. Grant guidelines, application instructions, and workshop registration can be found at flagstaff.az.gov/FSG.
