Coconino County Criminal Justice Coordinating Council announces 2026 awards and opens community nominations

The Coconino County Criminal Justice Coordinating Council (CJCC) is now accepting nominations for its 2026 CJCC Awards, recognizing individuals, organizations and partnerships making meaningful contributions to the criminal justice system and the communities it serves.

The awards will be presented at a joint Flagstaff City Council and Coconino County Board of Supervisors meeting on Monday, Nov. 16 at 3 p.m.

The CJCC encourages community members, justice system partners, service providers and others to nominate individuals or organizations whose work reflects courage, collaboration, innovation and a commitment to improving outcomes for people impacted by the justice system.

This year’s awards include:

Courage in Justice Award
The Courage in Justice Award honors an individual with lived experience in the criminal justice system who has demonstrated extraordinary bravery in using their voice, story or actions to promote justice, healing or positive change. The award recognizes people who have overcome personal challenges related to incarceration, supervision or victimization and have courageously contributed to improving the system or supporting others impacted by it.

Eligible nominees include formerly incarcerated individuals, people on probation or parole and survivors of crime who have demonstrated integrity and resilience. Individuals do not need to have fulfilled all court obligations to be eligible.

Collaboration and Partnership Award
The Collaboration and Partnership Award recognizes individuals, teams or organizations that have worked together across sectors, communities or systems to advance equity, safety and fairness in the justice process.

The award highlights partnerships that break down silos, uplift diverse voices and demonstrate the power of working collectively to create meaningful change. Eligible nominees may include justice system agencies, community organizations, advocacy groups, service providers, people with lived experience and other stakeholders.

Innovation in Criminal Justice Award
The Innovation in Criminal Justice Award celebrates individuals, organizations or initiatives that have introduced creative and effective solutions to improve the justice system or address its impact on communities.

The award recognizes innovative programs, practices and approaches that advance equity, access, safety and well-being. Eligible nominees include justice system professionals, community leaders, grassroots organizations, individuals with lived experience, advocates and interdisciplinary teams.

“Every day, people across Coconino County are doing work that strengthens our communities and improves the way our justice system responds to the people it serves,” CJCC Director Dianna Kalandros said. “These awards give us an opportunity to recognize that work and highlight the individuals, partnerships and ideas that often do not receive the recognition they deserve.”

Nominations are open now and will be accepted through 5 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 26.

The CJCC encourages nominations from throughout the community. Nominees do not need to be CJCC members, and nominations may recognize an individual, organization, team or partnership that meets the criteria for one of the three awards.
