COCONINO COUNTY — Coconino County Superintendent of Schools Cheryl Mango-Paget is inviting community members to apply for appointment to local school governing boards. Applications are now being accepted to fill five vacant governing board seats that remain unfilled following the 2026 election cycle. Appointments to these positions will serve terms ending December 31, 2028.
The following school districts have one vacant seat available:
- Grand Canyon Unified School District #4
- Chevelon Butte School District #5
- Fredonia-Moccasin Unified School District #6
- Tuba City Unified School District #15
- NATIVE (Tuba City)
Serving on a school governing board is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the future of public education. Governing board members help establish district policies, adopt budgets, oversee the superintendent, and ensure students have access to a high-quality education.
To be eligible for appointment, applicants must:
- Be a registered Arizona voter;
- Have resided within the school district for at least one year immediately preceding the appointment; and
- Not be employed by the district, nor have a spouse who is employed by the district.
Applications are available online at: coconino.az.gov/2855/Governing-Board.
Completed applications may be submitted by:
- Email: sfobar@coconino.az.gov
- Fax: (928) 526-1469
- Mail or in person: Coconino County Superintendent of Schools, 2384 N. Steves Blvd., Flagstaff, AZ 86004
Original signed applications are required and must be received before an appointment can be made. Applications will remain open until each vacancy is filled.
An advisory committee composed of district residents and, when appropriate, a current governing board member, may be convened to interview applicants and provide recommendations to Superintendent Mango-Paget before appointments are made.
“Strong schools begin with strong community leadership,” Superintendent Cheryl Mango-Paget said. “If you are passionate about supporting students, educators, and your local community, I encourage you to consider serving on your school district’s governing board.”
