FLAGSTAFF — Coconino National Forest is planning to conduct several prescribed burns next week, pending all required approvals.
Work is to continue throughout the week as weather conditions allow. Prescribed burns are used to help reduce overgrown vegetation to help protect local communities, infrastructure and natural resources from wildfires.
Prescribed burns planned for the area include:
- Nov. 12-14: Upper Beaver Creek project (Mogollon Rim Ranger District). Location: Approximately 16.5 miles southeast of downtown Sedona just south/southeast of Stoneman Lake. Size: 11,500 acres planned.
- Nov. 12: Crescent Moon Admin Pile project (Red Rock Ranger District). Location: 1.5 miles south of Sedona Airport within Crescent Moon Ranch area. Size: 10 acres.
Watch for warning signs along roads near all prescribed fire areas before and during burns.
Residents may experience smoke during the prescribed burns. For more detailed information about air quality, go to AirNow online. When driving, slow down and turn on your headlights when you encounter smoke on the road.
