WINTER RECREATION

Fort Tuthill County Park is open and free for passive slow play recreation. There is no dedicated sledding hill however.

Flagstaff Snow Park, which is located in Fort Tuthill County Park, makes snow in a dedicated area with tubing runs. Their website has more information and a link to purchase tickets, which are required to recreate in this area of the park.

For other sledding and snow play areas in and around Flagstaff, the City of Flagstaff publishes a winter recreation map and operates a winter snow play information line at 1-844-256-SNOW.

RAYMOND POND ECOSYSTEM

The water level at Raymond Pond, located at Raymond County Park in Kachina Village, has been very low because of decreased precipitation last summer and this winter.  With the low water level, Parks & Recreation staff performed pond maintenance and removed excess silt and soil that have built up over time. Approximately 20 truckloads of silt were removed from the bottom of the pond in late January. The water level will be an average 6’ deep when full, which fills from snowmelt, precipitation, and runoff. Park staff also performed maintenance of the floating dock landing areas and added rock to allow for drier access.

This work contributes to a healthier wetland ecosystem by helping to sustain a variety of habitats for different flora and fauna, and ultimately helps protect the entire watershed. This area is in the Upper Verde River Watershed and contributes to the headwaters of Oak Creek Canyon

2020 COCONINO COUNTY FAIR WINS WFA AWARD

The 2020 Coconino County Fair earned 1st Place AND Judge’s Choice for the Western Fairs Association Achievement Award Program! This is the third award the 2020 Coconino County Fair received.

We competed with other Class 1 Virtual Fairs in Western Fairs Association, which are fewer than 50,000 in total fair attendance.

Western Fairs Association felt it was important to continue their Achievement Awards Program, showcasing not only the creativity of their member fairs and service members, but the perseverance and dedication of our industry to our communities.
