County Superintendent of Schools announces 2026 County Spelling Bee winner and runners-up

COCONINO COUNTY — The Coconino County Superintendent of Schools Office proudly celebrates the outstanding young scholars who competed in the 2026 Coconino County Spelling Bee, an inspiring showcase of academic excellence, perseverance and the power of learning.

Cheryl Mango-Paget, Coconino County Superintendent of Schools, is thrilled to announce this year’s champions:

• First Place: Erin Ebers, Mount Elden Middle School

• Second Place: Tyla Hoffa, Maine Consolidated Schools

• Third Place: Saneela Mirza, DeMiguel Elementary School

These exceptional students demonstrated remarkable skill, focus and determination throughout an exciting competition that brought together the county’s top young spellers. Their achievements reflect not only individual dedication but also the strong support of their schools, families and communities.

“Every student who competed in the County Spelling Bee has already proven they are a champion,” said Superintendent Mango-Paget. “These students represent the very best of Coconino County — their curiosity, resilience and commitment to learning inspire us all.”

Coordinated and hosted by the Coconino County Superintendent of Schools Office, the annual competition united student champions from public, charter, private and homeschool programs across the county for a day of spirited academic competition and celebration.
The Superintendent’s Office extends its deepest gratitude to the Flagstaff Rotary Club, the sole sponsor of the 2026 Coconino County Spelling Bee. Their generous support made the event possible, including providing experienced judges and financial awards for the top three winners. Special recognition goes to Laura Trout, Mike Williams and Mike Hickey, who not only presented awards but also served as judges, helping create a fair, meaningful and memorable experience for every participant.

Additional thanks go to pronouncer Stephanie Hammond, whose professionalism and expertise ensured the integrity and success of the competition.
