Winter Artisan Holiday Market

Join us for the annual winter artisan holiday market! We invite you to shop the cultural corridor on Fort Valley Road, and visit Coconino Center for the Arts, Museum of Northern Arizona, and Flagstaff Arts & Leadership Academy the weekend of December 6th and 7th.

This year’s market at Coconino Center for the Arts takes inspiration from European-style outdoor markets, set beneath the pine trees. You’ll find vendors offering local handcrafted goods, wearable art, herbal remedies, and the chance to shop the Flagstaff MountainTown Market. Indoors, visit our current exhibition, SHIFTING TOPOGRAPHIES: Extracting the Landscape in the Main Gallery and Neal Galloway’s Tin Can Conversations in the Project Gallery. We’ll have hot cocoa, coffee and apple cider, straight or spiked!

Visit three markets over two days in one place, shop the cultural corridor on North Fort Valley Road.

A Conversation with Berta Benally
Berta Benally will share her perspective and experience on what she’s witnessed since the late 1960’s on the Navajo reservation and surrounding areas, and the effects it has had on the environment and the people. The presentation will include topics of mining and desecrations of sacred lands, and feature Berta performing two songs on these issues.

Winter Clothing Drive
As a benefit to the unsheltered community, this event will include a Winter Clothing Drive. In consideration of cultural practices, please do not contribute items from deceased people.

Sihasin Concert
Multi-award-winning independent artists and cultural ambassadors Jeneda and Clayson Benally deliver a powerful, genre-defying sound rooted in their Navajo heritage. With just bass, drums, and vocals, this sibling duo blends traditional Navajo music, folk, world, and post-punk energy to create a unique musical experience that inspires audiences worldwide. Sihasin (pronounced See-ha-sin), meaning hope in Navajo, was formed following their internationally acclaimed band Blackfire. Raised amid forced relocation, sacred site desecration, and human rights struggles on the Navajo Nation, Jeneda and Clayson channel these experiences into music that empowers, heals, and advocates for justice.

Sihasin’s music embodies hope, resilience, and a strong cultural foundation. In Diné (Navajo) tradition, music is a tool for healing and unity; Sihasin continues this tradition by inspiring listeners to rise up, speak out, and create positive change.

Neal Galloway’s Tin Can Conversations uses the core motif of a tin can telephone to explore the fragility, complexity, and profound value of interpersonal communication. A series of sculptures and time-based artworks explore physical and psychological distance, miscommunication, disagreement, sensitivity, power dynamics, love, and connection. Inspired by a difficult cross-country displacement, and by the challenge of maintaining healthy relationships during the COVID pandemic, Galloway uses unconventional materials in his artworks to connect with audiences, while pushing those materials to overcome their humble origins.

SHIFTING TOPOGRAPHIES: Extracting the Landscape features projects by Carol Hartman (Red Lodge, MT), Jeff Schmuki (Stateboro, GA), and Klee Benally in memoriam (Diné, Black Mesa, Navajo Nation; Flagstaff, AZ). In a rapidly changing climate, we are witness to and complicit in irreversible scarring of the land. There are eight National Parks and Monuments within a 2-hour drive of Flagstaff that face potential threats to their preservation, due to the proposed federal reopening of protected sacred lands to mining. This timely and relevant exhibition theme—extraction—takes on a markedly different approach depending on the geographical and cultural perspectives of the represented artists.

One Blood at the Precipice

In One Blood at the Precipice, Flagstaff artist Frederica Hall engages a multi-disciplinary approach informed by reflections on challenging matters of present times. The exhibition presents painted portraits of species that have become endangered in recent years. The artist has rendered the animals monochromatically in red, in reference to the International Union for Conservation of Nature’s (IUCN)Red List of threatened species, inviting the audience to consider their own role in nature’s trajectory. OneBlood at the Precipice premiered at Coconino Center for the Arts (CCA) in 2024 and was a finalist for the 2025 Viola Awards for Excellence in Visual Arts.

The exhibition is currently on display at Sosta Restaurant, CCA’s Satellite Exhibition Partner.
