Sedona Arts Center offers year-round classes and workshops designed to inspire artists of all experience levels. From painting, ceramics, jewelry making, and photography to mixed media and more, our programs are welcoming, hands-on, and taught by working artists in a supportive creative environment.

Whether you’re discovering a new passion or continuing to grow your skills, you’ll find opportunities to explore, create, and connect in the heart of Sedona. New ceramics classes begin in June, alongside a wide variety of upcoming workshops and studio experiences for adults, teens, and families.

The Joy of Painting: A Bob Ross Class
with DJones
May 27, 2026, Wednesday, 1-4pm

Tap into your inner artist and experience the joy of painting — Bob Ross style! In this fun, hands-on workshop, a Certified Ross Instructor will guide you step-by-step through creating your own landscape masterpiece using traditional Bob Ross wet-on-wet oil techniques. Learn how to paint happy little trees, soft clouds, and serene mountain scenes in just three hours.

All materials are included, and all skill levels are welcome — no experience needed! Ages 12 and up can participate with an adult, making this a perfect creative outing for families or friends. Come paint, relax, and discover just how happy art can be.

Learn how to turn everyday moments into striking works of art with nothing more than your iPhone. This hands-on class covers breathtaking landscapes, expressive portraits, and up-close macro photography — plus the editing apps and techniques that will take your images to the next level.

Discover the joy of hand-built ceramics in this fun and welcoming class designed for both beginners and experienced artists. Learn essential techniques like slab building, coil construction, and pinch pots while creating functional and decorative pieces including bowls, mugs, vases, platters, and more. Explore surface design, texture, slip decoration, and glazing techniques to make each project uniquely your own. Small class sizes allow for personalized instruction and creative growth at every skill level. Tuition includes a 25-pound bag of clay, glazes, firings, and one open studio session per week.

Ceramic Explorations: Wheel and Beyond

Take your ceramics skills to the next level in this playful, hands-on pottery class designed for both beginners and experienced artists. Students will explore the potter’s wheel alongside slab construction, extrusion, texture techniques, and more while creating both functional and decorative ceramic pieces.

Small class sizes provide personalized instruction and plenty of creative support as you build confidence, strengthen technique, and develop your own artistic voice. Experiment with the endless possibilities of clay in a welcoming studio environment that encourages exploration, creativity, and growth. Tuition includes a 25-pound bag of clay, glazes, firings, and one open studio session per week.

CERAMIC EXPLORATIONS : WHEEL AND BEYOND : SIGN UP
Exploring and Developing Glazes
with John Post
June 23 – July 4, 2026 – Tuesdays, 12:30-3:30pm

This course provides a comprehensive introduction to the creation and modification of ceramic glazes. Students will begin by learning how to read glaze recipes and accurately prepare liquid glaze batches. Building on this foundation, the course explores techniques for developing multiple glaze variations from a limited number of initial batches.

Beginner to Confidence-Building Wheel Throwing
with John Post
June 24 – July 15, 2026 – Wednesdays, 4:30-7:30pm

This class offers a welcoming and supportive environment to explore the art of wheel throwing. Designed to accommodate both true beginners and those with some wheel experience, you’ll learn the fundamentals of wheel throwing, including centering clay, shaping forms, trimming, and pulling handles to create cylinders, bowls, mugs, and plates.

Ceramics: Independent Study

July 27 – August 31, 2026 – Mondays, 12:30–3:30pm

Designed for intermediate and advanced students, this supportive studio class offers the opportunity to refine your pottery skills while working on personal projects in a creative, hands-on environment. Explore advanced throwing and hand-building techniques including lidded vessels, plates, bottle forms, and expressive surface design.

Students are encouraged to develop their own artistic direction with individualized guidance and one-on-one support from the instructor. Experiment with advanced glazing, finishing, and decorative techniques while building confidence and technical skill. Tuition includes a 25-pound bag of clay, glazes, firings, and one open studio session each week.

Stamp Making to Customize Your Clothing
(And Other Stuff!)

Come learn the basics of relief printing by carving your own stamps to decorate and personalize fabric and clothing. We’ll learn how to use carving tools, how to transfer images we want to carve onto soft blocks, and how to print our stamps onto both paper and fabric.  We’ll also experience the meditative and visual power of repetition and pattern. You don’t need to have previous printmaking or drawing skills to enjoy this workshop! All of the carving and printing materials will be provided, but you should bring fabric items that you might want to print on, such as spare tote bags or tshirts (ideally nothing you’re too attached to, since these will be for practice!)

WATERCOLOR AND INK SKETCHBOOK : LEARN MORE
Wet Concrete Carving
with Elder Jones
August 28–30, 2026, Friday — Sunday

Learn to build forms, prepare sand mix concrete, sculpt and hand carve in the soft matrix in this wet-carved concrete workshop.  No power tools or hammer and chisel are required.   Students will be given a working understanding of Portland cement and the variety of possibilities the technique offers. Choose to make either a planter or sculpture of about 25 lbs. By the end of the carving day everyone will have completed their piece short of it having sit overnight to cure before handling.

Scholarships Available

Scholarships are an important part of Sedona Arts Center. It has a long history in providing students in need of financial assistance, the ability to hone their skills and creative talents. Art classes and workshops also allow an emotional break from daily life and offer social interaction with fellow lovers of art. We are proud to offer our scholarship program, with the help of The Kling Family Foundation, The Ceramics Scholarship Fund, and the Debbie Winslow Scholarship Fund, which allow us to continue this long standing opportunity.
