Economic Collaborative of Northern Arizona (ECoNA) — Events & Opportunities for Economic Development Week (May 4-8)

Good afternoon,

(This) week is the 11th annual Economic Development Week, created by the International Economic Development Council in 2016 to increase awareness of local efforts to promote economic vitality and highlight programs that create jobs and opportunities for individuals and businesses.

Throughout the week there are opportunities locally and nationally to celebrate and access resources that help businesses – and communities – continue to prosper.

In Flagstaff, the week kicks off at Moonshot (2201 N. Gemini Dr.), the local business incubator and accelerator. There will be a “Coffee & Connection” get-together at 7:30 am Monday, followed by an introduction to business resources and community collaborations at 8:30 am. On Tuesday, a Downtown Walking Tour will start at 1 pm in Heritage Square, followed by an official proclamation by the City Council at 3 pm at City Hall.

The week in Flagstaff will close out at the Flagstaff Mall at 4 pm with a tour where participants will meet with several local businesses and discuss their business strategies. The tour will include a happy hour at Mi Tesoro Modern Mexican restaurant. (Registration is required for this event).

Outside of Flagstaff, there are multiple resources for existing businesses and entrepreneurs who want to start their own companies. In Camp Verde, the Business Resource & Innovation Center (385 S. Main St.) creates programs to cater to the workforce needs of current and potential employers, as well as ones that help aspiring businesses create their business model.

Throughout the northern Arizona region, Small Business Development Centersoffer free, confidential business consulting. In Coconino County, the SBDC is based at Coconino Community College.

This year, Economic Development Week coincides with National Small Business Week, and the federal Small Business Administration is offering a two-day virtual summit on May 5 and 6 with presentations on accessing capital, using AI in your business, writing stronger proposals, and protecting your business from risk and fraud.

We hope that you’ll take advantage of some of the resources, tours, and networking events available next week. Whether you are an employer or an employee, with a company that’s just starting out or marking an important milestone, our ECoNA staff and board wish you all a very happy Economic Development Week.
