Economic Collaborative of Northern Arizona (ECoNA) — Save the Date: BioScience Roadmap Update

Good Afternoon,

As the Bioscience Roadmap enters its third decade, we hope you will join us next month for the annual update on the growth and progress of Arizona’s bioscience sector.

The Flinn Foundation, which originally commissioned this long-term strategic plan more than two decades ago, will be hosting the free Zoom session from 12:00 – 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 19. You can register to attend HERE.

The event will feature presentations by Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego and Tucson Mayor Regina Romero on the capacity of municipalities to drive growth in this sector.

The biosciences is a wide array of enterprises and research that touch on most people’s lives. Jobs in the sector on average pay 31% – or $18,000 – higher than other private sector jobs in the state. This includes work in agricultural feedstock and industrial biosciences; drugs, pharmaceuticals, and diagnostics; hospitals, medical devices, and equipment; and research, testing and medical labs.

The roadmap has five overarching goals:

  • creating a hub of bioscience entrepreneurs and companies across the state;
  • increasing the ability of research institutions to transform their results into products or treatments;
  • making Arizona a “bio-talent” powerhouse;
  • promoting the state’s convergence of research, health care and commercialization to economic partners in neighboring states, Canada and Mexico; and
  • sustaining and enhancing Arizona’s reputation for collaboration.

I hope to (virtually) see you at the Bioscience Roadmap update as we learn more on the progress being made for this exciting sector that is so important to northern Arizona.
