Why puppets? Why now?

“Now, more than ever, social movements and protest groups need the emergent qualities of puppetry–qualities understood through both watching and performing–to challenge the status quo and articulate our society’s demands.”
(Bread and Puppet Theater founder, Peter Schumann)

Parade Puppets play a role in helping us have the crucial conversations of our time. They help to create more accessible messages, to amplify ideas, to evoke solidarity, and to increase engagement. And they are fun!

Lisa Aimee Sturz, award-winning puppet-maker and Artistic Director of Red Herring Puppets, is leading the workshop.

Lisa has worked with Jim Henson Productions, Lucasfilm, and Walt Disney Imagineering and has created giant figures for the Lyric Opera of Chicago, the Field Museum, and Shedd Aquarium, among others.  Her screen credits include: Elmo in Grouchland, Muppets from Space, Howard the Duck, the Flintstones, Ninja Turtles 3, RoboCop2, Gremlins 2, Murphy Brown, PuzzlePlace and Batman Returns.
