Masterworks Concert 1: Of Fate and Fire
Saturday, September 19, 2026, 7:30 PM
FSO’s Season 77 opens with a joyful overture by Louise Farrenc, a pioneer woman composer, and two of the most famous (and rightfully so!) pieces ever composed. Pianist Chaeyoung Park plays Grieg’s beloved Piano Concerto in A minor, and we finish with the single most famous piece of Classical music—Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony!
Masterworks Concert 2: Dreams of America
Friday, October 23, 2026, 7:30 PM
FSO celebrates America’s 250th birthday with THREE world premieres by American composers, plus an incredible multidisciplinary performance. Joan Tower’s Fanfare for the Uncommon Woman precedes a new commission from composer Benjamin Taylor, with aerial photography visuals by Charles Latshaw celebrating northern Arizona’s beautiful landscapes. We celebrate the 100th anniversary of Route 66 with two premieres by Nolan Stolz. And we present Peter Boyer’s Ellis Island: The Dream of America, which brings together FSO, six Flagstaff-based actors, and a beautiful video presentation of historical photos and documents to celebrate America’s great cultural history of immigration.

Masterworks Concert 3: Date Night at the Movies
Saturday, January 23, 2027, 7:30 PM

Masterworks Concert 4: Echoes of Home
Saturday, February 13, 2027, 7:30 PM
Travel with us through three stunning musical landscapes. Peter Maxwell Davies’s An Orkney Wedding, with Sunrise is a piece that earns its surprise ending—probably the best possible combination of bagpipes and orchestra. Violinist Andrew Sords returns to Flagstaff to join us for Max Bruch’s joyful and impressive Scottish Fantasy, one of the violin repertoire’s most richly scored showpieces. The evening closes with William Dawson’s Negro Folk Symphony, a pioneering work for both American music and African American composers.
Masterworks Concert 5: Mendelssohn: Elijah
Saturday, April 17, 2027, 7:30 PM
Mendelssohn’s Elijah is one of the great choral works in the repertoire—sweeping, dramatic, theatrical, and entirely satisfying from start to finish. Chorusmaster Timothy Westerhaus leads FSO alongside the combined forces of NAU’s Shrine of the Ages Choir and Master Chorale of Flagstaff in a full-evening performance of this powerfully impressive oratorio. A fitting close to FSO’s 77th season.
