Grand Canyon Community Update – Sept. 28, 2026

The Bright Angel Flash Flood Incident Management Team has updated the size and, in some cases, location, of potable water storage tanks throughout Grand Canyon Village in order to serve residents who have relied on the tanks during the current water emergency.

The potable water tank placement plan was developed with input from park leadership and based off usage reports. There are a total of 16 tanks at various locations, for a total of approximately 15,000 gallons. Although the total amount of water has been reduced, it still exceeds the average daily use of approximately 6,000 gallons per day.

Tanks were inspected upon delivery and are required to meet potability requirements. Tanks will be tested and filled regularly. A hose will be installed for each tank after it has been filled, and the project is expected to be fully in place by Monday.

The tanks can be found at the following locations: Randy Thompson Circle; Sunset Drive; Paiute Circle; Mohave Drive; Pima Street; GRCA School District; Coconino Street; Bright Angel Trailhead; Supai Camp; FMD complex on Shuttlebus Road; Grand Canyon Visitor Center – Lot 4; Trailer Village entrance; Mather Campground Entrance; South Kaibab Trailhead; north of Desert View main parking lot; Desert View Housing area.

Future locations may be adjusted based on community needs and feedback but will still serve the same general areas.

Portable restrooms, handwashing stations, showers, and laundry remain unchanged.

Residents should continue to follow current Stage 4 water conservation requirements and use the designated potable water distribution locations announced through official park communication channels. Your conservation efforts have been extremely important to helping us remain in place as a community while we restore normal water delivery in the park.

Grand Canyon Conservancy Community Dinner TONIGHT!

Grand Canyon Conservancy continues to host a series of community dinners, offering residents and employees an opportunity to come together, share a meal and support one another.

Everyone from the Grand Canyon community is welcome to attend. Upcoming dinners will be held from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the following locations:

• Big-E Spaghetti Western in Tusayan: Thursday, Oct. 1. There will also be live music with Ed Kabotie and the Yoties and Sage Bond during this dinner.
• The Holiday Inn Grand Canyon (formerly the Squire): Monday, Sept. 28, and Thursday, Oct. 8
• Plaza Bonita: Monday, Oct. 5

Complimentary shuttle service, provided by Xanterra, will run between Maswik and the dinner locations beginning at 5:15 p.m. Shuttles will depart every 30 minutes until 9 p.m., with the final shuttle returning to Maswik at 9:25 p.m.
