KNAU update for Nov. 1 — Schedule Changes, Brussels Sprouts, and more

With the change to standard time for nearly all the country on Sunday, KNAU moves for the next few months into our winter schedule.

The Friday schedule to KNAU News/Talk contains the most obvious changes: Fresh Air on Friday will move to 11am while Science Friday will shift back to a noon start. Fresh Air will still be heard at one o’clock Monday through Thursday. A more subtle consequence of the time change will be to 1-A at nine in the morning: For a few months the first hour of the program will be live, so it will be possible to call-in to the program or respond online. Also the Marketplace Morning Report shift to the even hours of Morning Edition.

This week’s segment takes inspiration from an art exhibit currently showing in Flagstaff called Locked Up: Pain and Resilience. The exhibit focuses on problems within the U.S. prison system, and the contributing artists, at some point in their lives, have all done time. Learn more at KNAU.org.

Seven years ago, Arizona started a program through which bars could get employees trained to stop a potential sexual assault before it happens. Now, researchers at the University of Arizona and Arizona State University are planning to study whether the Arizona Safer Bars Alliance initiative is having a significant impact.
