FLAGSTAFF — Long lines didn’t deter children and their parents who were already lined up for nearly a block in the alley between Second and Third streets as they awaited the opening of the “Back to School Fair” held July 19 at the Flagstaff Family Food Center.
More than 1,000 backpacks, along with other school supplies, were available to be distributed that day in an event that had some organizers worried that maybe they did too good a job publicizing the fair.
Hannah Brand, reading room manager at the Flagstaff Family Food Center, reported that about 634 backpacks were distributed on July 19, with another 250 expected to be distributed during the following week.
