COCONINO COUNTY — Please join the Greater Flagstaff Forests Partnership (GFFP), Coconino County and your local fire departments/districts at five distinct community meetings in support of the development of a countywide Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP).
This is an opportunity for the community to learn about the CWPP, visit with staff from local fire departments, mingle with Coconino County subject matter experts and provide comments to inform the CWPP’s development. The meetings will begin with a short presentation, and then attendees will be able to visit stations with displayed information like how to Firewise homes.
This CWPP is being developed through a collaborative partnership of stakeholders including a core team comprised of representatives from multiple fire and land management agencies; utilities; tribal, state and county government; non-profits and other scientific and academic institutions who have collectively taken proactive measures to reduce wildfire risk to rural communities across Coconino County. This CWPP is the first of its kind, and SWCA Environmental Consultants has been contracted to provide technical expertise and lead plan preparation.
Crucial aspects of the CWPP will include recommendations for hazardous fuels reduction, public outreach and education, structural ignitability reduction and improved wildfire response capabilities. In the face of potential wildfires, CWPP efforts aim to identify wildfire planning measures that will heighten the safety of residents and related critical infrastructure throughout Coconino County.
