Call to Artists: The Face of Time

An Exhibition at Sedona Arts Center
Exhibit Dates: August 1 – September 12, 2025
Opening Reception: August 1, 2025 | 4:00–6:00 PM
Deadline to Apply: July 1, 2025

Since 2022, Sedona Arts Center has embraced a unifying annual theme to inspire our exhibitions and programs. For the 2025–2026 season, our guiding theme is FACE—a word rich with meaning as both noun and verb. From the human visage to the surface of mountains, from emotional expressions to bold acts of confrontation, FACE invites endless interpretations.

Our inaugural exhibit of the season, The Face of Time, invites artists to delve into the emotional and visual power of portraiture. This juried exhibition will explore the passage of time through the lens of the human (or animal) face—revealing how age, experience, memory, and transformation are etched into every line and glance.

We seek work that responds deeply and creatively to this theme, through traditional, experimental, or conceptual approaches. Show us how time reveals itself in a face—and how a face can reflect the soul of time.

Exhibit Dates: July 18 – September 27, 2025
Location: Tolleson Public Library, 9055 W Van Buren St, Tolleson, AZ

As part of our 2025–2026 season theme, FACE, Sedona Arts Center presents FACES—a statewide juried exhibition hosted at the Tolleson Art Gallery. This unique opportunity is open exclusively to Arizona artists working in any medium.

The face is more than a set of features—it is a mirror of identity, emotion, culture, and connection. FACES invites artists to interpret the face in all its forms: human or imagined, abstract or symbolic, literal or metaphorical. We welcome work that embraces bold creativity, whether through traditional portraiture or experimental expression.

We seek diverse perspectives and compelling visual stories that explore what faces reveal—and what they conceal. How do we recognize a face? How do we read it? How do we respond to it?
