Sedona Arts Center — Create, Explore, and Travel With Us

Two unforgettable creative journeys
— Ireland and Maine await.

There’s something transformative about leaving home and creating art in a place that speaks to you. Our Field Expeditions are built around that experience — pairing extraordinary instructors with landscapes that shape the work itself.

Each journey is fully curated, intentionally timed, and deeply immersive. With expert instruction, supportive staff, and local partners who know their region intimately, these trips aren’t tours — they’re creative retreats rooted in place, meaning, and discovery.

This year, we’re thrilled to offer two very different but equally inspiring adventures:

🇮🇪 Ireland — Fused Glass Seascapes with Amy Light
Create shimmering underwater worlds in glass, shaped by the wild coastal beauty of Mulranny and the timeless atmosphere of Ireland’s west shore.

🇺🇸 Maine — Sacred Spaces with Jesse Petersen
Slow down along Acadia’s rugged coastline as you craft pocket shrines, shadow box reliquaries, and layered journal pages inspired by memory, reverence, and the quiet power of place.

Whether you’re drawn to the luminous color of fused glass or the reflective, tactile process of mixed-media assemblage, each expedition offers room to grow, explore, and reconnect with your creative voice.

There’s truly no substitute for being there — learning, making, and opening yourself to the landscape around you.

Ready for your next adventure?
Let Ireland or Maine guide your imagination this year.

IRELAND:
Fused Glass Seascape Workshop Inspired by the Shores of Mulranny, Ireland

with Amy Light
July 22–28, 2026  | Mulranny Arts, Mulranny, Ireland

Step into the luminous world of fused glass and create your own shimmering seascape inspired by the wild, breathtaking coastline of Mulranny. Join glass artist Amy Light for a hands-on workshop where you’ll learn to layer color, texture, and light to bring an underwater scene to life — from flowing seaweed and sculpted fish to the glimmer of the ocean floor.

You’ll work with both fused glass and torch techniques, learning how to cut and shape glass, create your own frit and powder-painted details, and sculpt delicate sea creatures using the torch. By the end of the week, you’ll have a beautiful three-dimensional glass artwork — a unique keepsake that travels safely home with you.

No experience necessary. All skill levels are welcome, from complete beginners to those with prior fusing or torch experience.

IRELAND : FUSED GLASS SEASCAPE WORKSHOP WITH AMY LIGHT
MAINE!
Sacred Spaces: Creating Pocket Shrines and Shadow Boxes

with Jesse Petersen
September 22–26, 2026  | Winter Harbor, Maine

Along the rugged coastline of Acadia National Park, this intimate workshop invites you to slow down, breathe deeply, and create meaningful works of art inspired by memory, reflection, and place. Under the guidance of artist Jesse Petersen, you’ll explore painting, printmaking, collage, journaling, and mixed media as you craft your own pocket shrines, shadow box reliquaries, and layered visual journals.

Using vintage ephemera, natural materials, and thoughtfully selected textures, you’ll build small, sacred vessels that hold personal stories — from fold-out paper altars stitched with fabric to tiny assemblages tucked into matchboxes or antique tins. Daily prompts and gentle instruction will guide your creative process as you paint, collage, write, and reflect in community.

The Schoodic Institute, located within Acadia National Park, provides the perfect setting for this retreat: quiet shoreline, soft northern light, pine forests, and endless ocean views. With lodging and meals included, every detail is designed to help you focus fully on creative restoration and soulful making.
