COCONINO COUNTY — The Coconino County Attorney’s Office is proud to announce the creation of a Conviction Integrity Unit (CIU) to review post-conviction claims of actual innocence.

“Arizona law places special responsibilities on every prosecutor that continue even after a conviction. Those responsibilities require us to act when we encounter clear and convincing evidence of a claim of innocence,” Coconino County Attorney Ammon Barker said. “The Conviction Integrity Unit demonstrates our commitment to those special responsibilities through a fair, thorough, and transparent process.”

Coconino County Attorney’s Office Announces Formation of New Cold Case Unit

“We are determined to ensure that every case, regardless of how long ago it happened, deserves justice,” said Coconino County Attorney Ammon Barker. “Our Cold Case Unit reflects our unwavering commitment to work as a team with partners at the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office, the Flagstaff Police Department, and other local law enforcement agencies to solve cases and bring violent criminals to justice. Our law enforcement partners at the Sheriff’s Office and Police Department are using modern forensic techniques to solve cold cases, and when that happens, it is time for my office to bring charges and prosecute the case in court. Through our collaborative efforts, we are confident that we can deliver justice for victims and their families who have sought accountability for so long.”

County Attorney’s office launches online program to assist those with past marijuana convictions

Under Arizona Proposition 207, which legalized recreational marijuana use in Arizona, individuals convicted of certain marijuana offenses may have those convictions expunged. The County Attorney’s Office’s new program offers a simple, accessible process for eligible people to ask the County Attorney’s Office to assist in filing an expungement request on their behalf.

New Leadership Announced in the Coconino County Attorney’s Office

COCONINO COUNTY — The Coconino County Attorney’s Office has initiated a succession plan that includes the resignation and reassignment of County Attorney Bill Ring.

At the Board of Supervisors meeting today, Ring’s resignation was accepted, and he was appointed Chief Civil Deputy Attorney, while Chief Deputy County Attorney Ammon Barker was sworn in as interim County Attorney, and Senior Criminal Attorney Michael Tunink was appointed Chief Deputy County Attorney. All actions were approved by the Board of Supervisors.
