City of Flagstaff approves $3.33M in bond funding to assist in creating 139 affordable rental apartments

FLAGSTAFF — The Flagstaff City Council recently approved $3.33M in Rental Incentive Bond Program awards, which will be leveraged by other funding sources and result in 139 affordable rental units being constructed in downtown Flagstaff by the Foundation for Senior Living. The San Francisco Square Apartments will serve seniors earning up to 80% of the area median income and the Aspen Lofts Apartments will serve individuals and families earning up to 60% of the area median income. This funding was created by the passage of Proposition 442 by Flagstaff voters in 2022, which authorized the use of general obligation bonds for the creation of rental and ownership opportunities for residents of Flagstaff.

April 23 — Flagstaff City Council meeting discussion to include potential relocation of concrete plant in Southside

The City of Flagstaff has been working to relocate Arizona Materials (the concrete plant at 633 E. Brannen Ave) to allow for the construction of the Lone Tree Overpass Project and the Rio de Flag Flood Control Project. Arizona Materials is seeking City support to move to 840 E Butler Ave across from Whole Foods Market, which is located in the “Live/Make Center” as designated in the Southside Community Specific Plan.

Flagstaff City Council election results will take longer to process due to number of write-in candidates

The City of Flagstaff and Coconino County would like to provide information on when election results will be available following the November 8 election.

The first batch of results will be released by Coconino County on Election Day after 8 p.m. These results will reflect early ballots processed and counted by Election Day. Following this first release of results, additional results are uploaded periodically through the night as Election Day ballots are delivered for counting.

City of Flagstaff accepting applications to fill Council vacancy

The City of Flagstaff is accepting applications from qualified residents interested in serving on the City Council. An appointment will be made on or before May 5, 2022, to fill the Council seat vacancy created by the resignation of Becky Daggett. The appointment term will expire on December 20, 2022.

To be eligible for appointment to the City Council, a citizen must be registered to vote in the City of Flagstaff, a city resident for a minimum of one year, and cannot hold any other public office.

Flagstaff City Council meetings to return to hybrid format

During the Feb. 15 Flagstaff City Council meeting, the Council decided that council meetings will return to a hybrid format beginning Feb 22. Members of the public can participate either in person at City Hall or virtually using the options below.

Flagstaff City Council meetings to continue to be held virtually

During the Jan 25 Flagstaff City Council meeting, the Council decided that council meetings will remain fully virtual for the time being due to high numbers of COVID-19 cases in the community. The City Council will continue to reevaluate the format of council meetings during regularly scheduled COVID-19 updates at future council meetings.

Jan. 11, 18 and 25 Flagstaff City Council meetings to be held virtually

Due to the rapid spread of the COVID-19 Omicron variant, the Flagstaff City Council has decided that the January 11, 18 and 25 City Council meetings will be held virtually with no in-person attendance at City Hall or Council Chambers. Members of the public can stream these Council meetings at https://www.flagstaff.az.gov/1461/Streaming-City-Council-Meetings.

Members of the public may also give verbal public comment during the meetings using the link posted on the agenda. Agendas can be viewed at http://cityweb.flagstaffaz.gov/agendaquick/agenda_publish.cfm.

Flagstaff City Council to discuss draft Carbon Neutrality Plan

On June 23, 2020, the Flagstaff City Council declared a Climate Emergency. The Declaration commits Flagstaff to achieving community-wide carbon neutrality by 2030, to respond to the climate emergency and improve quality of life for all residents. With input from the Flagstaff community and technical experts, the city of Flagstaff developed a draft a plan that outlines a framework for action over the next nine years. This plan details seven target areas of action that the city will take to reach carbon neutrality:

City seeks input for Climate Action and Adaptation Plan revision

The Flagstaff City Council declared a Climate Emergency on June 23, 2020. The declaration commits Flagstaff to update its Climate Action and Adaptation Plan to achieve community-wide carbon neutrality by the year 2030. To respond to this emergency, the city will revise the Climate Action and Adaptation Plan to reflect the new goal of carbon neutrality, while supporting a collaborative climate action mobilization that requires full community participation.
