GRAND CANYON, AZ: Grand Canyon National Park will implement Stage 2 Fire Restrictions for the South Rim and Inner Canyon beginning June 26, 12:00 PM due to forecasted critical fire weather conditions.

The North Rim remains under Stage 2 Fire Restrictions that took effect on May 15, 2026, at the start of the summer operating season following the 2025 Dragon Bravo Fire. Those restrictions remain unchanged.

With this action, Stage 2 Fire Restrictions will be in effect throughout Grand Canyon National Park.

County areas in and around Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest move to Stage 2 fire restrictions

COCONINO COUNTY — After consultation with the United States Forest Service (USFS), areas of Coconino County within the boundaries of the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest will move to Stage 2 fire restrictions effective Friday, June 26, 2026, at 8 a.m. All other areas of the County will remain in Stage 1 fire restrictions.

Coconino County expanding Stage 2 fire restrictions to additional areas of western Coconino County

COCONINO COUNTY — Coconino County will expand fire restrictions in coordination with the Kaibab National Forest.

Stage 2 restrictions will take effect on Friday, August 8, 2025, at 6:00 a.m. for all unincorporated areas within the boundaries of the Tusayan Ranger District and North Kaibab Ranger District.

Upon implementation of these new restrictions, all unincorporated lands within the boundaries of the Coconino National Forest and Kaibab National Forest will be in Stage 2 fire restrictions.

GRAND CANYON, AZ.— Effective immediately, due to high fire danger, Grand Canyon National Park will implement Stage 2 fire restrictions for the South Rim and all other areas of the park.

The restriction encompasses the entire park including all campgrounds, residential areas, backcountry sites and developed recreation sites.

COCONINO COUNTY — With the potential for continued warm, dry, and windy conditions throughout Northern Arizona in the coming days, Coconino County will expand fire restrictions in alignment with area National Forest decisions.

Restrictions will go into effect this Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. The City of Flagstaff is also entering Stage 2 fire restrictions on Friday.

“Coconino County implements fire restrictions to help prevent unwanted, human-caused fires. CCEM continues to work closely with our fire mitigation partners at the federal, state, and local levels to determine if fire restrictions are needed, and if so, to what extent,” said Tim Carter, acting Emergency Management Director. “In coordination with the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests’ decision to enter Stage 2 restrictions, Coconino County will also enact Stage 2 restrictions for all private lands within the boundaries of the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest in southeastern Coconino County.”

Grand Canyon National Park to lift Stage 2 Fire Restrictions Monday, July 1

GRAND CANYON, Ariz. – Effective on Monday, July 1 at 8 a.m., Stage 2 fire restrictions are rescinded for the entire Grand Canyon National Park. Increased monsoonal activity throughout northern Arizona has significantly lowered the fire danger risk within the last week.

Grand Canyon National Park will remain in Stage 1 fire restrictions which requires that a campfire always be in a designated fire ring within a maintained campground. Inner canyon users can use gas cook stoves, but campfires and other open fires are never allowed below the rim. River users should continue to follow the conditions of their permit regarding fires along the Colorado River.

Stage 2 Fire Restrictions to Begin Friday in Coconino County

COCONINO COUNTY — Representatives from both Coconino and Kaibab National Forests have indicated their intent to move to Stage 2 fire restrictions Friday, June 21 at 8 a.m. Per Coconino County Ordinance 2024-01, Coconino County Emergency Management (CCEM) will implement Stage 2 fire restrictions in all unincorporated areas of the County at the same time.

Under the County’s Stage 2 restrictions the following activities are prohibited at all times, in all County jurisdictions:

Igniting, building, maintaining, or using a fire, including fires fueled by combustible materials such as wood, charcoal, briquettes, and/or coal.
Smoking outdoors.
Use of internal combustion engines for common household-only activities, such as landscaping or property maintenance and repair.
Use of explosive targets, tracer rounds, or incendiary ammunition.
Outdoor mechanical and industrial operations such as welding and/or the use of acetylene or other torch with an open flame.

GRAND CANYON, Ariz. — Due to warm and dry weather conditions and increasing fire danger, Grand Canyon National Park will implement Stage 2 fire restrictions for the South Rim, North Rim and Inn Canyon beginning at 8 a.m. on Friday, June 21.

The restriction encompasses the entire park including all campgrounds, residential areas, backcountry sites and developed recreation sites including: Phantom Ranch, Cottonwood Campground, Havasupai Gardens Campground and the Colorado River corridor.

City of Flagstaff — Stage 2 Fire Restrictions begin on Friday, June 21

FLAGSTAFF — The City of Flagstaff will enter Stage 2 Fire Restrictions at 8 a.m. on Friday, June 21, 2024.

Stage 2 Fire Restrictions include the following new restrictions:

The use of fire pits and other open flame devices without an on/off switch is prohibited.
The use of charcoal and wood-fired BBQs are prohibited throughout the city, including at private residences and campgrounds.
The use of propane and gas BBQs with an on-off switch are still allowed throughout the city.

Coconino National Forest strengthening fire restrictions Friday

FLAGSTAFF — The Coconino National Forest will implement Stage 2 fire and smoking restrictions beginning 8 a.m. Friday, June 21 as the threat of unwanted wildfires increases due to hot, dry and windy weather conditions.

Under Stage 2 restrictions, the following are prohibited forest-wide:

Igniting, building, maintaining, or using a fire (including charcoal and briquettes) anywhere within the Coconino National Forest, including developed recreation sites. This prohibition also includes smudge pots and wood stoves.
Smoking outside (with the exemption of smoking within an enclosed vehicle or building, a developed recreation site or while stopped in an area at least 3 feet in diameter that is barren or cleared of any flammable material) …

Coconino County Moves Back to Stage 2 Fire Restrictions

As of 6:00 a.m. today, July 6, Coconino County has moved back to Stage 2 Fire Restrictions in coordination with the Coconino and Kaibab National Forests.

This decision was made due to the cooler temperatures and recent rainfall which has reduced the risk of wildfire.

Even with the rain and lower temperatures, Coconino County remains in a drought and therefore fire danger remains. The following restrictions apply on County public lands, as well as private lands in the unincorporated areas of the County:

Countywide Stage 2 Fire Restrictions to Begin Friday

Stage 2 fire restrictions will begin at 8 a.m., Friday, June 11 across Coconino County. Fire restrictions are to help protect public health by reducing the number of human-caused wildfires.

The County has been in Stage 1 fire restrictions since May 14. The County is enacting Stage 2 restrictions due to forecasted weather and very high fire danger. Restrictions are in coordination with Coconino and Kaibab National Forests and other agencies in the area.
