United Way of Northern Arizona — Save the Date! Annual Meeting on April 30th

Please join United Way of Northern Arizona on Thursday, April 30th as we celebrate a year of impact and achievement and the many things we have done – together – to ensure that all can thrive in Coconino, Navajo, and Apache counties.

This past year saw the 20th anniversary of KinderCamp™ and a major expansion of the Dolly Parton Imagination Library. It marked the launch of a teen center for the northeast and a region-wide youth leadership summit.

United Way of Northern Arizona — Give Books Today for Love of Reading Month

February is ‘Love of Reading’ month, and it’s a celebration that is close to our hearts here at United Way of Northern Arizona. Literacy is key to our work supporting early childhood development and – fueled by your generosity – we help instill that love of reading every day.

United Way of Northern Arizona — This February, Show Your LOVE of Community!

United Way of Northern Arizona invites you to celebrate your Love of Community and be part of our special campaign throughout February to strengthen the place we all call home.

February is a month overflowing with love. There’s Valentine’s Day, of course, but it’s also national Love of Reading Month, and on February 17th, you can celebrate Random Acts of Kindness Day.

That makes this the perfect time for heart-centered folks to show their love and create lasting local impact by giving to United Way of Northern Arizona. Love of Community is about each of us playing a part in supporting youth, building stronger families, healthier communities, and a more resilient region.

Every dollar donated stays right here in northern Arizona. Whether you’re giving for the first time or renewing your commitment to our community, now is the time to show that United is the Way to make a difference for our friends and neighbors in Coconino, Navajo, and Apache counties.

United Way of Northern Arizona — What Happens When We Listen to Youth

When we listen to youth, powerful things happen.

That’s why one of the core commitments of your United Way of Northern Arizona is bringing our community together around programs and projects that provide local youth with the opportunity to achieve their full potential.

I’m excited to share two items that will make a difference to teens this winter. The first is the grand opening of The Bijou Teen Center in Holbrook, a project for youth by youth that has been several years in the making.

United Way of Northern Arizona — You’re Invited! Bijou Grand Opening January 9th

We are excited to announce the Grand Opening of the Bijou Teen Center in Holbrook on January 9th. More than two years in the making, this center is a shining example of what our community can achieve through collaboration.

The seeds for the teen center were planted back in 2023, when a youth-led mental health survey of northeast Arizona teens revealed a strong desire for a safe, inclusive space they could call their own. Multiple partners then worked together to transform that dream into a reality.

United Way of Northern Arizona — Holiday Wishes

All of us at United Way of Northern Arizona wish you and your loved ones a joyful and peaceful holiday season. May this time be filled with meaningful moments, safe travels, and time spent with the people who matter most.

We are deeply grateful for your continued support and partnership. Together, we will keep strengthening our communities and creating opportunities for youth, families, and neighbors across Coconino, Navajo, and Apache counties in 2026 and beyond.

Happy Holidays and best wishes for the New Year!

Liz Archuleta and the UWNA Team

United Way of Northern Arizona — Turn your Arizona taxes into local impact

This holiday season, I wanted to take a moment to extend my heartfelt gratitude to our community. Your partnership, collaborative spirit, and generosity are what make northern Arizona so special and why we make this region our home.

I’d also like to invite you to consider a gift to United Way of Northern Arizona that will not only help support our youth and families but also give you a break on your taxes.

There are many ways to give and each has its benefits.

United Way of Northern Arizona — Meet the People Driving This Year’s Campaign

Workplace fundraising is truly the beating heart of our Annual Campaigns, and they simply wouldn’t be possible without the incredible dedication of Workplace Campaign Coordinators.

These champions inspire their colleagues, organize creative events, and help share the message of what it means to Live United.

From the government and education sector to businesses of all sizes, their leadership ensures that our community continues to come together to support youth opportunity, healthy communities, and meeting the basic needs of our neighbors in Coconino, Navajo, and Apache counties.

United Way of Northern Arizona — YES! Empowering Teens to Lead with Purpose

What does leadership look like when you’re just starting high school?

For 17 ninth graders from Joseph City, Holbrook, and Grand Canyon schools, that question came to life earlier this month during United Way of Northern Arizona’s Youth Experiencing Success (YES) Leadership Summit — a pilot event designed to help students explore their strengths, understand their potential, and connect with local role models.

United Way of Northern Arizona — Annual Campaign Begins!

The underlying belief embodied by the supporters of United Way of Northern Arizona is that strong communities are built when we come together to learn, share, and act.

We had a chance to do just that recently at the kickoff breakfast for our Annual Campaign to raise $1.2 million.

Donations to the Annual Campaign will help ensure all who live in Coconino, Navajo, and Apache counties can thrive.

United Way of Northern Arizona to present 2nd Literacy Fair on Aug. 16, inaugural Youth Leadership Conference on Oct. 2

We are very excited to announce two upcoming events designed to promote literacy and leadership skills for our youth.

Later this month, we’ll hold our 2nd Literacy Fair, building on the success of the first one we held with the Literacy Center in February.

Then in October, we’ll have our inaugural Youth Leadership Conference for dozens of 9th graders in northern Arizona. Kristen Strauss, our Manager of Youth Programs & Education Initiatives, has all the details about both events below.

United Way of Northern Arizona — Please Give to the Crisis Response Fund

United Way of Northern Arizona is working with its agency and government partners in response to the wildfires at the Grand Canyon, which have impacted hundreds of individuals who live and work along the North Rim.

Contributions to UWNA’s Crisis Response Fund can be made HERE and will go towards helping those displaced by the blaze, which has closed the North Rim for the rest of the season. You can also text UWNAZRESPONSE to 41444 to give.

United Way of Northern Arizona — A Month Full of Reasons to Celebrate

June brings with it a spirit of celebration – around the globe, across the country, and right here in northern Arizona.

From today’s Juneteenth observance to international Pride Month, we are reminded of the power of visibility, freedom, and community. Closer to home, we just celebrated a major milestone in Holbrook with the funding of a new teen center that very soon will offer support and opportunity for young people.

United Way of Northern Arizona secures funding for Holbrook Teen Center

United Way of Northern Arizona (UWNA) is proud to announce it has received a $150,000 grant from Wellpoint, a leading healthcare company, to support the transformation of a former retail space in Holbrook into a teen center.

The center is being developed by Grow Arizona Workforce Network, a local nonprofit focused on workforce readiness and youth empowerment.

UWNA has been working to help secure funding for close to a year and is thrilled by the enthusiasm and commitment shown by the Wellpoint team in supporting this new service.

United Way of Northern Arizona — Volunteer Spotlight: Viviana Reyes

When Viviana Reyes attended UWNA’s Community Impact and Annual Recognition Luncheon a few weeks back, she had no idea she was going to receive an award for her volunteer efforts.

“I saw my name in the program and was completely surprised,” she recalls. “It’s really special to receive an acknowledgement. “For me, volunteering isn’t something formal — it’s just what you do. Growing up in a Latino family, community, and mutual support were at the heart of everything. I didn’t even think of it as ‘volunteering’ – we just showed up for each other.”

United Way of Northern Arizona — Holbrook & Joseph City Get Ready for KinderCamp™

This summer, our free camps are launching in Holbrook and Joseph City, joining existing sites in Flagstaff, Williams, and Pinetop-Lakeside.

Held in June, KinderCamp advances kindergarten readiness by preparing students with limited preschool experience transition successfully into kindergarten.

United Way of Northern Arizona — Thank You to Partners for Successful Literacy Fair at Killip Elementary

Thanks to the many organizations that made our first Literacy Fair on February 22nd at Killip Elementary School such an amazing success.

The fair brought together families, educators, and numerous community groups to foster a love for reading among young children.

Children enjoyed a morning of engaging literacy games and received free books, while parents participated in workshops designed to enhance youth reading skills. These workshops provided families with valuable tools and strategies to support literacy development at home.

The fair, made possible through a grant from Read On Arizona, is a vital part of United Way of Northern Arizona’s efforts to promote early childhood and youth development by fostering a culture of literacy.

Storytime sessions were a highlight of the fair, featuring Coco the Comet, Coconino Community College’s mascot, and a special visit from the Tooth Fairy.

United Way of Northern Arizona — KinderCamp™ enrollment begins

This summer, KinderCamp™ turns 20!

This signature program of United Way of Northern Arizona is poised to grow in 2025 – both geographically and in terms of long-term impact.

KinderCamp will launch in Holbrook and Joseph City this year, and we are putting the final touches on a new effort – called KinderCamp & Beyond – that will give our KinderCamp graduates the resources they need to succeed throughout their academic careers.

Learn more about how we are gearing up for KinderCamp 2025, and how you can play a role in helping the next generation get ready to take on the world.

United Way of Northern Arizona — Help Us Reach Our Campaign Goal on Giving Tuesday!

Welcome to the biggest single day of philanthropy on the calendar – #GivingTuesday. Can we count on you to help us reach our 2024 Campaign Goal during this international day of giving?

When you donate, you help LEAD THE WAY and support early childhood development programs and help our youth live up to their full potential. You also help fund programs that meet our community’s needs, quickly and efficiently, in times of crisis.

During our campaign kickoff, we announced a goal of $1.2 million. Today we are two-thirds of the way there, but still need $400,000 to reach our goal. Can you help us bridge the gap today?

United Way of Northern Arizona — Wishing you a Happy Thanksgiving

We couldn’t do it without you.

At United Way of Northern Arizona, we are committed to Leading the Way, bringing people together to make bold changes to improve communities in Coconino, Navajo, and Apache counties.

Together with you, we are promoting early childhood education, positive youth development, and the safety and security of our friends and neighbors by working to meet basic needs.

This Thanksgiving we are more grateful than ever for your friendship, partnership and support.

Warm wishes for a wonderful holiday,

Liz and the United Way Team

United Way of Northern Arizona — Summit Society Profile: Lucinda Andreani

Coconino County Deputy Manager Lucinda Andreani, a long-time member of the Summit Society of United Way of Northern Arizona (UWNA), embodies the spirit of giving and community involvement.

Born in California, she has been active in community affairs throughout her life, whether it was helping launch a local chapter of the National Organization for Women or participating in environmental cleanups.

Her journey with United Way began when she was working for the California utility company PG&E, which promoted workplace giving to their local United Ways and provided matching grants for donations. Lucinda was always in the top tier of donors.

United Way of Northern Arizona — Developing a Teen Center Solution in Holbrook

Last year, United Way of Northern Arizona was a partner in a project to help teens in Navajo County survey their peers about current mental health issues facing youth in northeast Arizona.

One of the items to emerge from that survey was that teens in the area were eager for a space to call their own – a teen center.

Now Grow Arizona Workforce Network is pursuing a plan that would establish a facility to not only provide a safe and supportive environment for teens, but to develop the region’s future workforce.

United Way of Northern Arizona — Halloween Safety Tips for Tonight

Happy Halloween from United Way of Northern Arizona!

Tonight will be an exciting time filled with costumes, candy, and spooky adventures. But it’s also important to prioritize safety while trick-or-treating.

As you know, one of our organization’s main priorities is stepping up for youth and that includes making sure they are safe.

Whether you’re planning to walk the neighborhood or attend local festivities, these tips will help keep children safe and make Halloween a memorable experience for all the right reasons.

Before Heading Out: Plan for Safety
Make sure costumes are short enough to avoid tripping hazards and that your child can see through any mask. Attaching reflective tape to costumes or treat bags or carrying glow sticks or flashlights will improve visibility.

Have a plan for your route and stick to familiar, well-lit areas. Ensure that younger children are supervised by an adult and set up a curfew for older kids going out alone.

United Way of Northern Arizona — Nestle Purina and Joy Cone Lead the Way for United Way

Co-coordinators Robin Ayers, HR Manager, and Michelle Brown, Senior HR Coordinator, led Nestle Purina’s campaign this year with a mission of engaging employees and inspiring community support.

“When we can step up and make a difference, it is recognizable to others, which can encourage other agencies and individuals to do the same,” said Michelle. “We’re proud of our employees who are involved in community outreach.”

Nestle Purina introduced their workplace campaign during quarterly business meetings, combining informational presentations on the work of UWNA with opportunities to donate. Raffles were held for anyone completing a pledge form with additional prize opportunities for staff members who met specified donation goals.

United Way of Northern Arizona — How Pacesetters Are ‘Leading the Way’ – and How You Can Join Them

The impact of our Pacesetters – the companies and organizations that fundraise for our annual campaign in the month ahead of our official launch – is truly invaluable.

Their efforts not only lead the way by providing a head start in our fundraising efforts, but they also infuse the campaign with their enthusiasm. Their work generates buzz and builds up anticipation as they rally the community around United Way of Northern Arizona and promote our mission of stepping up for our youth and our community.

If you’ve attended one of our UWNA campaign kickoff events, you know that a big highlight is when the Pacesetters proudly present what they raised, often with oversized novelty checks or other creative displays.

United Way of Northern Arizona — Can You Help Our Airport Be ‘Operation Ready’? at Pulliam Airport

Every three years, Flagstaff Pulliam Airport stages a full-scale exercise to test responses to an aircraft accident at the airport. This is an event that requires help from the entire community, and involves representatives from the city, county, state, and federal government, private sector and non-government partners and lots of volunteers.

This year’s all-day exercise, called Operation Ready FLG. will take place on Monday, September 9, 2024 and requires about 60 volunteers to portray injured and non-injured passengers of a simulated plane crash and mass casualty incident.

United Way of Northern Arizona is helping to coordinate volunteers for the event.

United Way of Northern Arizona — Wishing You a Happy Independence Day

As we come together to celebrate the birth of our nation, it’s a perfect time to reflect and remember the values that unite us: freedom, equality, and the unwavering spirit of community.

Independence Day honors not only those who founded our country, but also each person committed to a future where every person has the opportunity to thrive.

Whether it’s lending a hand to a neighbor, volunteering in our communities, or supporting those in need, every act of kindness makes a difference. Thank you, as always, for Living United. Together, we can create a brighter, more inclusive future for all.

United Way of Northern Arizona — Wishing You a Safe Memorial Day Weekend

This weekend we will mark a somber tradition that dates back to 1868, just three years after the end of the Civil War. Known then as Decoration Day, it was a time to honor those who perished in the conflict by adorning their graves with flowers. In 1971 the last Monday in May was established as Memorial Day.

We wish you a safe holiday weekend as we continue the tradition of honoring those who gave all so we could live in freedom.

United Way of Northern Arizona — Deadline Extended to May 17 for KinderCamp™

A survey of parents indicated that children’s KinderCamp experience improved their knowledge of letters and sounds of the alphabet, made them better able to socialize with other children, and increased their ability to communicate with adults.

If you are interested in learning more about KinderCamp in Flagstaff or registering, please click here.

United Way of Northern Arizona — Last Day to Register for Annual Campaign Celebration

We’ll be making not one, but two major announcements at next week’s Annual Campaign & Community Impact luncheon, and we hope you will be with us when we share the exciting news about how we will expand efforts to Step Up for Our Youth.

But time is running out to register for this event and be among the first to find out about these ground-breaking developments.

Our Annual Campaign & Community Impact Luncheon will start at 11:30 am on Wednesday, March 27 at Little America Hotel. Tickets are $50 / $375 for a table of 8.

The deadline to register is end of business today, March 21.

Celebrating Women at the United Way of Northern Arizona

This year Women’s History Month has particular resonance for United Way of Northern Arizona both because of the makeup of our small and mighty staff and because of this year’s theme: Women Who Advocate for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion.

Worldwide, three out of four United Ways are led by women, but UWNA’s staff is entirely female.

I am honored to lead a team that includes Christine Pierce, our Campaign and Operations Manager; Elaine Hebestreit, our Administrative Assistant; and Tempy Wessel, who recently joined us as our Northeast Representative.

Additionally Carol Dykes and Sybil Smith continue to assist us with community engagement, managing volunteer efforts and crisis response.

United Way of Northern Arizona — Will We See You at Our Annual Celebration?

Plan on joining us as we celebrate our collective community impact and share some exciting news that will further our efforts to step up for our youth in Coconino, Navajo, and Apache counties.

Our Annual Campaign & Community Impact Luncheon will start at 11:30 am on Wednesday, March 27 at Little America Hotel.

Tickets are $50 / $375 for a table of 8.

United Way of Northern Arizona — Supporting Youth Mental Health

When school started last year, the EdWeek Research Center (part of the publication Education Week) conducted a survey, asking high school students the following question: In the past year, what, if anything, has had a negative impact on your mental health?

Here was the statistic that pulled me up short: only 16% of the respondents said “Nothing.”

That means 84% had experienced enough stress and anxiety – about everything from school to the future of our planet – that it had a detrimental effect on their mental health.

United Way of Northern Arizona — Why Everyone Loves KinderCamp™

We all agree that children are our future, and we need to invest in their development.

KinderCamp™, a signature program of United Way of Northern Arizona, is part of our efforts to Step Up for Our Youth. For almost two decades, it’s gotten positive reviews from teachers, parents, and most importantly, the four- and five-year-olds who participate each summer.

Learn more about how we are gearing up for KinderCamp 2024, and how you can play a role in helping the next generation get ready to take on the world.

United Way of Northern Arizona — Introducing Tempy Wessel, UWNA’s Northeast Arizona Representative

United Way of Northern Arizona is pleased to announce that Tempy Wessel, a native of Joseph City and former member of W.L. Gore & Associates, has accepted the position of Northeast Arizona Representative for UWNA.

Wessel’s family’s history in Northeast Arizona has gone back for generations, with her family originally coming to Joseph City as ranchers. They soon became involved in local, county, and state government, and Tempy’s great grandfather was a federal magistrate in Holbrook for many years.

After retiring from W.L. Gore, she and her husband, David, moved back to Joseph City, where they manage a community center that serves as a meeting place for local clubs and the Chamber of Commerce.

“This region is the place that most feels like home to me,” she said. “Being the Northeast Representative isn’t just a job; it’s my heart.”

United Way of Northern Arizona — Chamber Radio Program Features UWNA

I recently had the honor of being a guest on the Greater Flagstaff Chamber of Commerce’s radio show Bizz Buzz to talk about the United Way of Northern Arizona and our efforts to step up for our youth.

UWNA has been a proud Chamber member for many years. It was wonderful talking with Chamber President & CEO Julie Pastrick and sharing with her audience how we are expanding our efforts in positive youth development.

United Way of Northern Arizona — Earning Your Trust

There are many reasons why you can trust that your investment in the United Way of Northern Arizona (UWNA) will further our mission of creating lasting, positive changes in our region.

In addition to our exhaustive process of evaluating programs, so that your donations go where they can do the most good, we work every day to be good stewards of your funds.

UWNA recently received a “clean” audit report from Fester & Chapman PLLC of our 2023 financials, meaning our financial reporting was accurately stated and in compliance with general accounting principals.

As UWNA Board Chairman Mike Kelly said after reviewing the auditors’ report, “It’s one of the reasons I’m proud to be part of UWNA, because I can feel really good about how our monies are managed.”

United Way of Northern Arizona — Northeast AZ Teen Concerns Highlighted in Youth-Driven Survey

A recent survey of students from Holbrook and Joseph City High Schools illustrates some of the mental health concerns of teens in Navajo County.

According to the survey, which was administered by two students at the high schools, a majority of the teens interviewed indicated they frequently feel anxious and under pressure in school and work.

About half felt they had someone to talk to about their concerns. Most relied on music, exercise, sleeping, or time alone as ways of coping with the stress they feel.

United Way of Northern Arizona — Helping to Solve the Childcare Crunch

In order to step up for our youth, we need to make improving access to childcare a top priority.

According to a report released just this week, the lack of adequate childcare in Arizona is costing the state $4.7 billion in lost earnings, productivity, and revenue each year.

The analysis, conducted by ReadyNation with major funding by the Helios Education Foundation, shows that not having accessible, affordable, and high-quality childcare is adversely impacting parents, businesses, and taxpayers.

United Way of Northern Arizona — Supporting Youth (and Families) on Giving Tuesday

On Giving Tuesday, we come together to support the causes that matter most to us.

This year, I’m asking you to join us and create more opportunities for our communities in Coconino, Navajo, and Apache County to step up for our youth by supporting not only our children, but those who take care of them as well.

An underlying aspect of many of the programs we manage or fund is about being a partner to the parents and guardians who are raising the next generation.

United Way of Northern Arizona — Wishing You a Happy Thanksgiving

We couldn’t do it without you.

We are United in Purpose 365 days a year, and together we are stepping up for youth and our community in Coconino, Navajo, and Apache counties. We are promoting early childhood education, positive youth development and the safety and security of our friends and neighbors in our local communities.

This Thanksgiving we are more grateful than ever for your friendship, partnership and support.

Warm wishes for a wonderful holiday,

Liz, Christine & Elaine

United Way of Northern Arizona — Healthy Bodies, Healthy Futures

The need for programs that encourage physical health have never been more essential for our region’s youth than now.

According to the United Health Foundation, only 16.8% of Arizona children between the ages of 6 and 17 are physically active for an hour a day. The latest report from the Annie E. Casey Foundation indicates that 31% of children 10 to 17 in the state are overweight or obese.

Part of stepping up for our youth includes ensuring our kids make healthy choices – from the foods they eat to putting down their devices for a while and getting active.

United Way of Northern Arizona — Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month

For the past month, we as a nation have celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month, a time of recognition for the many contributions made by the Hispanic and Latino community in the United States.

Because of my own background and family roots, this annual appreciation has particular meaning for me, but it should also resonate with all northern Arizonans. According to the U.S. Census Bureau QuickFacts statistics for 2022, 15% of Coconino County residents are of Latino or Hispanic descent. In Navajo County, it’s 12.3% and 7.2% in Apache County.

Celebrations like Hispanic Heritage Month confirm our commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and access, which is important to our youth, so that they can develop a strong sense of self-worth and belonging.

We hope you enjoy learning more about Hispanic Heritage Month below.

United Way of Northern Arizona — Recommitting to Positive Youth Development

focus to Stepping Up for Our Youth and Communities, we have successfully rallied around early childhood development with programs like KinderCamp™ and the Dolly Parton Imagination Library.

This year with our annual campaign theme of United in Purpose – 365 Days a Year, we are recommitting to the goal of also supporting programs and initiatives that promote positive youth development and refocusing our efforts on a comprehensive approach that encompasses our youth from birth through early adulthood.

From the desk of:
Liz Archuleta
President & CEO

At our annual campaign kickoff last week, I had a chance to provide a detailed vision of how United Way of Northern Arizona can support our community and partners to foster opportunities for our youth at all ages. I envision it as a circle where we as a community wrap ourselves around our youth and can step in at any point of a youth’s development and make a difference.

United Way of Northern Arizona Board Spotlight — Chris Reed

Every member of a nonprofit board brings something special to the table. It could be expertise about governance, an ability to analyze financials, or a passion for advocating about our mission.

One skill all of our board members have is a keen understanding about why the work of United Way of Northern Arizona is needed.

Since 2018, Chris Reed, Senior Pastor of Christ’s Church of Flagstaff, has been providing leadership on our board as well as his insights on the programs and services needed by our local youth and the community as a whole.

We hope you enjoy learning more about Chris in the profile below.

United Way of Northern Arizona — Tusayan Latest Focus of Our Safety & Security Efforts

Last week, the gateway to the Grand Canyon became the latest community in northern Arizona to be severely impacted by flooding.

After about three inches of rain fell on Tusayan, flooding ensued, causing a temporary closure of State Highway 64 and evacuations. The flood waters have receded, but many residents who live in employer housing in the town are dealing with damages to their dwellings.

United Way of Northern Arizona and its partners, along with the residents’ employers, are assisting during this time with resources so the residents can store their items and replace items that were lost while their homes are being repaired.

United Way of Northern Arizona — Board Spotlight: Gabriella “Gabe” Smith

Nonprofits, like most organizations, are known by the company they keep. When their leaders are passionate about the community, it is a powerful force for positive change.

At United Way of Northern Arizona, we are fortunate to have a highly talented and dedicated volunteer Board of Directors. Periodically, we’ll share their stories with you because their commitment to Living United is the foundation of the work we do.

We’re very pleased to begin this series with a profile of Gabriella “Gabe” Smith of Kinney Construction Services, Inc. We hope you enjoy it!

United Way of Northern Arizona Distributes $510,000 in Grants

One of the most valuable services provided by United Way of Northern Arizona is ensuring that donations and other sources of funding go where they are needed most.

Recently, the UWNA Board of Directors approved the distribution of more than $510,000 to 37 community programs that are making a difference in Coconino, Navajo and Apache counties.

Applications from nonprofit partners were meticulously reviewed by multiple Community Investment teams, who evaluated the work of these organizations, so that proven programs would receive the sustaining funding they need to continue to impact their communities. Their recommendations were forwarded to the Finance Committee and ultimately voted on by the Board.

United Way of Northern Arizona — ‘My Baby Girl Learned So Much’

Summer always is a special time, and for me one of the biggest highlights of the season is visiting KinderCamp™ classes.

It is always magical watching four- and five-year-olds gaining the confidence and skills they need to make a successful start in kindergarten.

KinderCamp is one of United Way of Northern Arizona’s signature programs to Step Up for Our Youth, and judging from the parents’ comments you’ll see below, it is making a huge impact in the lives of our students.

Many thanks to our partners – and to individual donors like you – who make this program possible.

United Way of Northern Arizona hiring Northeast representative

United Way of Northern Arizona (UWNA) is recruiting for a new Northeast Representative position as part of a strategic plan to address critical needs in Navajo and Apache counties.

The position will serve as the local point of contact for a region that includes the towns of Winslow, Holbrook, Snowflake-Taylor, Show Low, Pinetop-Lakeside, Springerville, Eagar, St. Johns, and Concho. A full description of the position and its requirements can be found here.

Historically an economically challenged area, the region has faced a reduction in jobs due to power plant closures, as well as a dramatic increase in population, which has led to a shortage of affordable housing, increased rental costs, and increased needs.
