‘Pursue what you want, believe in yourself and push as many boundaries as you can’

Want to take on the world’s complex, constantly changing problems? Start with making sure all of the world’s population have the opportunity to engage with the science, technology and engineering that is remaking the world. For International Day of Women and Girls in Science on Feb. 11, The NAU Review talked to some of the many women on our campus who are tackling questions of climate change, ecological diversity, computing, forest health and semiconductors—everything from the tiniest organisms and microchips to the entire universe.

How Jacks on Track helped a veteran finish his degree

Matthew Traylor almost graduated in 2020, but one class stood in his way. After his second failed attempt at his capstone, he gave up—until last fall, that is, when he got an email from Jacks on Track. This new program aims to find students who’ve done a lot of courses but didn’t quite graduate and find a way to get them to the finish line. With help from advisers, Traylor got his final credits and, in December, earned his diploma.

On Saturday, students, faculty, staff and community members gathered to honor the life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. and kick off Black History Month. Notable speakers, including President Cruz Rivera, shared moving testimonies, and Lumberjacks of all ages joined together for the postponed MLK Day march through campus.

Send a card. Make someone’s day.

With the ease and quickness of emails and texts, many consider snail mail to be a thing of the past. But, there is no denying the excitement that comes with weeding through the bills and junk mail to find a handwritten card from a dear friend. It doesn’t take more than a few minutes to write a short, personalized message and get a card sent, and it truly can be the best surprise. So, for National Send a Card to a Friend Day, we’re encouraging Lumberjacks to do just that. And, to make it even easier, here are some NAU-themed cards just waiting to be sent. You don’t need an excuse to send a card and make someone’s day (but if you did, Valentine’s Day is just around the corner!).
