🎓 For future Army nurse, working in health care during a pandemic changed everything 🎓

For the last two years, Laurel Malm, the first graduate of a joint program between nursing and ROTC, was on the front lines of health care, working in the COVID ward at Flagstaff Medical Center. Now she’ll take that experience with her into the Army, applying the leadership lessons she learned from ROTC and the need for flexibility, collaboration and focus she’s learned in nursing school.

The Lucy probe will study surface geology and composition and look for rings and satellites on the Trojan asteroids near Jupiter. Astronomy professor Josh Emery and doctoral student Audrey Martin are part of the team studying data that Lucy sends back to Earth.

🎓 Finding others while pursuing dreams 🎓

Gabriel Breakstone first fell in love with law enforcement in high school. He spent the next several years of his life volunteering with the police department and working with the Coconino Sheriff’s Search and Rescue unit in between a full day of classes and student job at the W. A. Franke College of Business. Having graduated Friday with a degree in hotel and restaurant management, Breakstone prepares for his next adventures in public service: joining the Phoenix Police Academy to become a sworn reserve police officer and attending flight school to further his aspirations of becoming a commercial airline pilot.

Empowering Diné educators

More than 100 educators gathered at NAU to share the ways they have introduced cultural lessons and ideas into their teaching, including using beads to teach math and finding climate lessons in the Navajo Nation flag.
