NAU recognizes outstanding students with prestigious awards

President José Luis Cruz Rivera recognized and honored outstanding students at NAU with the President’s Prize, Gold Axe and Distinguished Senior awards. The ceremony, held on April 10, celebrated the hard work and accomplishments of students selected from a pool of applicants representing different colleges. NAU honored 50 Gold Axe winners, including five President’s Prize winners—the highest honor awarded to undergraduate students. Additionally, nine students were honored as Distinguished Seniors of their colleges.

Supporting NASA’s Artemis missions

NAU ITS helped NASA’s Desert RATS team conduct research by establishing a reliable network connection for real-time communication with mission control, which allowed NASA to conduct simulated moonwalks and data analysis. The Artemis missions aim to land the first woman and first person of color on the Moon and pave the way for future missions to Mars.

3MRP competition puts grad research in the spotlight

Graduate students spend years on research, finishing their degrees with a book’s worth of knowledge, data and conclusions. It’s way too much to share in three minutes—or is it? The annual 3 Minute Research Presentation, held last week in conjunction with the GSG poster presentation, invites grad students to not only describe their research in exactly three minutes, but to do it in a way that anyone could understand. Physical therapy student Isabel Ticlo, biology student Jonas Noomah and mechanical engineering student Karl Harshe walked away with first, second and third in the competition.

CDC awards CHER $6 million to fund CHRs WITH uS!

This exciting initiative aims to expand the tribal community health worker workforce and the ability to address health equity and public health. The project involves collaboration with seven tribes to promote health equity, address COVID-19 and build community resilience.

HRM opens workforce development center in Mesa

NAU’s School of Hotel and Restaurant Management is opening the Mesa Workforce Development Center in Fall 2024. The MWDC will offer credit and non-credit programs, including affordable options, to train job-ready hospitality professionals.
