Lumberjack Thanksgiving traditions

One of our favorite NAU Thanksgiving traditions is winning a national cross-country championship … but we’ll get to that in a minute. 😉 For the rest of us, it means cutting down a Christmas tree, spending days putting together a puzzle, drinking at a local dive bar, crafting with kids, creating a tablecloth full of memories, celebrating Native American heritage and more. Here’s how our Lumberjacks spend the holiday.

Investigating treatments for lung disease

Archana Varadaraj and Narendiran Rajasekaran received a $469,000 NIH grant to apply findings from their research into renal and breast cancer to a potential treatment for Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis, a serious, irreversible lung disease.

🏆 FIVE-TIME CHAMPS 🏆

In a star-studded performance, the men’s cross country team achieved their fifth NCAA National Championship team title in six years after all five scoring runners earned All-American honors. NAU is the first team in NCAA history to win two national championships in the same year, as their last victory came in March when their season was postponed because of COVID-19. The women’s team placed 23rd overall.

CASA for Kids’ Giving Tree Program begins

The NAU community is invited to spread holiday cheer with gift donations to CASA, which supports Coconino County wards of the state. SAC has a goal of providing gifts to 25 children.
