In her words, her role is about “workplace culture and employee engagement” and managing internal communications to help employees stay informed and connected.
Her journey with United Way started as a loaned executive, splitting her time between her county role and supporting UWNA efforts.
“My responsibilities at the county didn’t change,” she said. “It was a lot of late evenings, but all worth it.”
Viviana supported UWNA in many ways, from recruiting and interviewing for key staff roles to improving internal processes and participating in the Community Investment process.
“I got a better understanding of the depth of the work UWNA does, especially in education and support services,” she said. “I also became more familiar with the grantmaking and funding allocation process.”
Viviana found volunteering very rewarding and encourages others to explore opportunities to help nonprofits in their community.
“You don’t need a specific skill set to get involved,” she said. “Nonprofits are great at finding a place for you. The biggest skill you need is caring and showing up.”
