City of Flagstaff: Explanation of the Public Hearing Process for The Hub

City of FlagstaffFLAGSTAFF — The Hub, a proposed student housing project on Mike’s Pike, has received a recommendation for approval from the Planning and Zoning Commission and will now come before the Flagstaff City Council. The Hub will be on the Council agenda on Tuesday, February 16, 2016.

Given the significant public interest in The Hub, the City of Flagstaff would like to explain how the process will be handled so the public is aware, in advance, of when they will have the opportunity to address the City Council.

On Tuesday, February 16 at 6 p.m. the City Council will open the public hearing on The Hub. At that time there will be a staff presentation followed by a presentation from the applicant (The Hub).  After those presentations, the Council will continue the public hearing to the February 23, 2016 meeting.  There will NOT be public testimony taken at the February 16th Council meeting.

At the February 23, 2016 meeting the Council will reopen the public hearing on The Hub and begin taking public testimony. If the Council is not able to hear all the public testimony at the February 23rd meeting then the Council will continue the public hearing to the March 1, 2016 meeting.  The Council wants to ensure that all requests to speak are honored.

Council discussion and voting on the first reading of The Hub’s rezoning requests will take place after all public testimony. This could occur if all the public testimony is completed in a reasonable hour at the meeting on February 23rd but will most likely take place at the March 1, 2016 meeting or later.

If the first reading is approved by a majority vote of Council then a second and final reading will take place at the Council meeting in two-weeks.

Questions about The Hub or the process can be directed to Planning Development Manager Brian Kulina, 213-2613, bkulina@flagstaffaz.gov.
