COCONINO COUNTY — During Tuesday’s meeting, the Coconino County Board of Supervisors lifted its Face Covering Proclamation effective June 1, 2021.
During Tuesday’s meeting, the Coconino County Board of Supervisors lifted its Face Covering Proclamation effective June 1, 2021. The rescission of the Proclamation results in masks no longer being required in indoor and outdoor settings in Coconino County. Private businesses still have the ability to require masks. Masks continue to be recommended for unvaccinated individuals in indoor settings. Although no longer required, Coconino County supports an individual’s decision to mask when already vaccinated based upon their own comfort level and preference.
Coconino County Health and Human Services (CCHHS) Director Kim Musselman cited the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) new guidance for vaccinated individuals for recommending this action to the board.
“Throughout the pandemic, Coconino County has followed CDC recommendations which are rooted in the latest science and research. CDC’s guidance that fully vaccinated individuals can safely participate in indoor and outdoor activities without a mask is good news. COVID-19 cases have fallen to the lowest numbers since the beginning of the pandemic, the vaccine is readily available, and our vaccination rates rise daily. We got here by following the guidance— we need to continue to mask when necessary, get vaccinated, and stay home when sick,” said Kim Musselman Director of Health and Human Services.
In line with the rescission of the Proclamation, Coconino County will no longer require vaccinated individuals to wear a mask in County buildings beginning June 1. Unvaccinated individuals are asked to mask while inside County buildings. Masks will continue to be required on public transportation, at the CCHHS clinic, and jail and detention facilities per CDC recommendations.
In addition to lifting the mask requirement, Coconino County aims to fully reopen County buildings on July 1.
“The guidance provided by CDC and acted upon today by the Board of Supervisors is a major milestone in the county’s and community’s COVID-19 experience. Coconino County appreciates our partners in healthcare and other sectors who continue to contribute to the COVID-19 response,” said County Manager Steve Peru.
