CCHHS offering COVID Aware Enhanced Food Handler’s Certification
Coconino County Health and Human Services (CCHHS) and Northern Arizona University (NAU) have partnered to create a new COVID Aware Enhanced Food Handler’s Certification for the local food-service industry.
The CCHHS Enhanced Food Handler’s Certification represents the most current health guidance directly related to preventing the spread of COVID-19 in a food-service establishment. The recommended practices stem from the Center for Disease Control (CDC), Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS) and are designed to increase the safety to guests, employees and our community.
Food-service businesses and employees can complete the program online, free of charge. Following completion businesses will then be listed on the CCHHS website as a Certified COVID Aware Business and be given a certificate to place on a front window to notify patrons that the business is Certified COVID Aware. The display of a COVID Aware certificate indicates that a business is promoting best practices and actively supporting local proclamations and Arizona State Executive Orders.
For more information on the certification please visit https://coconino.az.gov/2397/CCHHS-Enhanced-Food-Handlers-Cert.

Health Equity Among Rural Dementia Family Caregivers Study
Dr. Evie Garcia is part of a team of researchers at Northern Arizona University’s Center for Health Equity. She invites you to participate in their study of unpaid (family or friend) caregivers of people with Alzheimer’s or other dementia.
The purpose of the study is to assess the resources that caregivers of loved ones with Alzheimer’s and related dementias currently have, and still need, to improve their own health and caregiving experience. The survey also includes questions specific to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic and the effect of social distancing on caregivers. Findings from this study will be used to create and expand programs for Alzheimer’s/dementia caregivers in Northern Arizona. We are pleased to invite you to participate in this study and help us complete this important research!
There are two ways to participate in the study:
  1. Complete our survey at: https://nau.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_81cHUcxNcZaOFpP. The survey takes about 30 to 45 minutes to complete and is available in both Spanish and English. You can also request a paper version of the survey from us if you prefer.
  2. Sign up to participate in a focus group discussion with other caregivers. We will have in-person focus groups in select locations, and will also have telephone focus groups regularly. Focus groups may take 60 to 90 minutes. I have attached a flyer with the dates/times for telephone focus groups. We hope you sign up!
Joining the study is entirely voluntary and you may choose to stop participating at any time. If you choose to participate, you will receive a $25 gift card for each activity in appreciation for your time.
Please respond to this email or call us at 928-523-5794 if you have any questions or would like to sign up for a focus group. You can also learn more about the study on our website, https://nau.edu/sherc/adrd-caregivers/.
