Domestic Violence, Child Abuse, and COVID-19
In today’s newsletter, we would like to address an important and difficult issue that unfortunately affects many individuals in Coconino County, and that is domestic violence, child abuse, and COVID-19.
According to the American Psychological Association, traumatic events such as the COVID-19 pandemic, can lead to an increase in domestic violence and child abuse due to isolation, increased stress, and time alone with one another. MSNBC recently reportedthat calls to the National Domestic Violence have increased since the beginning of the pandemic.
Unfortunately, due to the nature of the COVID-19 pandemic, victims and survivors are unable to access the resources and safe havens they could typically use before the pandemic. This raises a unique issue on how to support these community members during this period of prolonged self-isolation. Below are some resources for employers, survivors, and advocates who would like support our vulnerable community members during this time.
This is hard and difficult, but we are a strong community, and you are not alone. We will get through this together.
If you or anyone you know is struggling during this difficult time please feel free to reach out to any of the below contacts:
