A Letter from Supervisor Liz Archuleta
Greetings District 2 Residents,
Thank you for your continuous support of Coconino County as we work day and night to ensure the safety and well-being of our citizens during the COVID-19 pandemic. We also appreciate your patience as we adjust to providing services through technology and modified delivery. Rest assured we are advocating for our community at all levels, and everything we do is done with you in mind. Your safety is our upmost importance, so we thank you for practicing social distancing, self-isolation, and all other methods of safety during this time.
This is a very unsettling time for our community right now and I want to reiterate, that as a community, we are strong. We have faced numerous hardships together before and have held each other in our care to get through crisis. If there is anything I know for certain about Flagstaff and Coconino County residents, it is that we are a resilient and powerful group of people. As a community, we will get through this together. Stay strong.
As we move forward in our current reality, stay hopeful and positive and know that we are in this together. I encourage all of us to continue checking up on each other virtually, make time to talk with one another, and continue to support one another from afar.
In Community,
Elizabeth “Liz” Archuleta, County Supervisor

County Board of Supervisors issue statement to close Grand Canyon National Park

The following is a statement from the Coconino County Board of Supervisors regarding the closing of the Grand Canyon National Park.
“For the safety and health of Coconino County healthcare providers, residents and visitors, the Coconino County Board of Supervisors strongly urge Department of Interior Secretary David Bernhardt to close Grand Canyon National Park due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Board also calls on local, state and federal officials to join the Board in calling for the closure of the park.
“The Grand Canyon is the crown jewel of parks across the County and country. However, it is important that the park adheres to proven guidance to help slow the spread of COVID-19. Social distancing measures in response to pandemics work. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, closures aimed to reduce the spread of infection have been proven to be extremely effective. Keeping the park open and allowing travelers from all over the world to come here and risk spreading COVID-19 is an unnecessary risk.
Locally elected officials know their communities and how best to look out for the public health of the people they serve. Leaders in Washington D.C. should heed, and seek out, the advice of, local leaders for the safety of Coconino County, the state and the nation.”
Flagstaff Area National Monuments Modifying Operations To Implement Local Health Guidance
Flagstaff, AZ – The Flagstaff Area National Monuments (Walnut Canyon, Sunset Crater Volcano, and Wupatki) are announcing additional modifications to operations in response to guidance from the Coconino County Health Department. The health and safety of our visitors, employees, volunteers, and partners is our number one priority. The National Park Service (NPS) is working servicewide with federal, state, and local authorities to closely monitor the COVID-19 pandemic.
Effective Saturday March 28, 2020, Walnut Canyon, Sunset Crater Volcano, and Wupatki National Monuments will be closed to all park visitors until further notice. Forest Service Road 545 (the road connecting Sunset Crater Volcano and Wupatki) and Black Falls Crossing Road will remain open for residential traffic. We will notify the public when we resume full operations and provide updates on our websites (nps.gov/waca, nps.gov/sucr, nps.gov/wupa) and social media channels.
Updates about NPS operations will be posted on www.nps.gov/coronavirus.
Coconino County Counts:
Take the 2020 Census!
This is a friendly reminder to all Coconino County Residents to fill out the 2020 Census!
What is the 2020 Census and Why is it Important?
“The census provides critical data that lawmakers, business owners, teachers, and many others use to provide daily services, products, and support for you and your community. Every year, billions of dollars in federal funding go to hospitals, fire departments, schools, roads, and other resources based on census data.
The results of the census also determine the number of seats each state will have in the U.S. House of Representatives, and they are used to draw congressional and state legislative districts.” – The United States Census Bureau
