The Epic Journey of Apollo 8
November 14th, 6:00
Coconino Community College, Lone Tree Campus

Fifty years ago, three astronauts, carried aloft by a Saturn V booster, passed into the influence of the Moon and circled around it ten times before returning to the Earth. Since Saturn V had never been tested successfully, the mission was extremely dangerous, and was arguably a more significant achievement than the more famous Apollo 11 moon landing. It also produced the first views of the Earth from the Moon—showing it dramatically rising over the lunar surface. This imagery and accomplishment of Apollo 8 helped to spur, among other things, the Environmental movement, and transformed the psyche of not just the astronauts but everyone who was watching. Fifty years on, we need to remind ourselves of all of that again. Join retired psychiatrist, astronomical historian and writer, Dr. Bill Sheehan for this not-to-miss historical tale.

Hansen, the movie will explore the sacrifices and the cost on Armstrong and on the nation of one of the most dangerous missions in history.
