Flagstaff Metropolitan Planning Organization to host series of planning studios (Jan. 8, 11) to update Regional Transportation Plan

Move Me FLGFLAGSTAFF — The Flagstaff Metropolitan Planning Organization (FMPO)  will host a series of planning studios to update Regional Transportation Plan (RTP), city officials reported in a media release.

Three studios will be held in the City of Flagstaff Council Chambers in January. They are organized around a different theme: transit, roads and streets (including freight), and pedestrians and bicycles. The studios are a chance for citizens, agency professionals, and interested stakeholders to roll up their sleeves, mark up maps, and discuss possible transportation futures for the greater Flagstaff region.

According to David Wessel, FMPO Project Manager, “These planning studios are an opportunity for the public to drop in, ask questions, and work along-side with FMPO staff and transportation planners to identify transportation issues and develop possible solutions.” The focus of the planning studios are to address general system planning and develop system criteria with special attention to a context sensitive approach needed to develop the regional plan.

If the public cannot attend the planning studios, a new website has been recently launched – MoveMeFLG www.movemeflg.com – that will provide a single portal for regional transportation interests. Specifically, the FMPOBlueprint 2040 Regional Transportation Plan and the NAIPTA Flagstaff Transit Spine Study can be found there and links to the Arizona Department of Transportation’s long range planning effort will be coming soon.

Additionally, the public can participate in a quick survey through January at https://www.peakdemocracy.com/portals/227/Forum_651/Issue_3315. The survey results will assist in linking the principals identified in the Flagstaff Regional Plan 2030 and Blueprint 2040 by better understanding “values” related to transportation. The input received will assist in developing the measures by which transportation projects will be prioritized.

Over the next year, there will be additional opportunities for the public to provide input on regional transportation studies as well as the state’s long range transportation plan. MoveMeFLG will be the website to find up-to-date information about transportation within the greater Flagstaff region.
