New Year Letter from David McCain

F3 Supporters:

Happy New Year! Thank you for all the time and energy you have given to support our efforts to make Flagstaff a more livable place for all residents.

This was a year of transition for Friends of Flagstaff’s Future.

We began the year by focusing on Social Justice issues and ended it supporting changes to our zoning code that will help maintain Flagstaff’s unique character.  In between, Tory Syracuse stepped down, we rallied the community to support affordable housing, we held another successful Gala, and we brought on a new Executive Director, Dawn Tucker, to lead us into the future.  Two Board Members departed the organization, Teri Dunn and Sharon Edgar, and we added one new member, Emma McVeigh.

After serving 3 years as Board President, I’ve decided to step down from that position.  I’ve much enjoyed the role and am excited to step back and focus more directly on building relationships with members.  I’m also looking forward to supporting our new President, Mike Caulkins. Mike has served on the board for nearly four years and is ready to move into this position.  I will remain on the board until my Board term ends next January.  The Board has also selected Emily Melhorn as Board Vice-President and Emma McVeigh as our new Secretary. Eli Cohen will continue in the Treasurer role.

In 2018, we intend to continue focusing on long-term, far-reaching policy changes through local legislation to make our city an even better place.

Thank you, again, for your past, present, and future support!

Sincerely,

David McCain

Outgoing Board President

Thank You Dave!

F3 is so grateful to David McCain for his years as Board President. Anyone who knows Dave knows how much energy and passion he brings to his work. Over his years as president, Dave put in place many of the policies and documents that will continue to guide F3 forward long into the future. It would be impossible to thank Dave for each and every one of his accomplishments, but all of us at F3 are grateful to Dave for so much.

If you want to thank Dave for his time as the F3 Board President, you can email him directly: dmccain@friendsofflagstaff.org

Future Items on Council Agenda

Last night at council, our council members voted to move the following items forward to future agendas:

Discussion:  A request by Councilmember Putzova to place on a future agenda declaring the Mayor and Council’s opposition to the proposed construction of the border wall along the US/Mexico border in response to President Trump’s Executive Order 13767.

Future Agenda Item Request (F.A.I.R.): A request by Mayor Evans to place on a future agenda a discussion about facilitating a roundtable discussion with individuals who work in the Grand Canyon to discuss challenges and how the City could be more helpful.

Future Agenda Item Request (F.A.I.R.): A request by Councilmember Putzova to place on a future agenda a discussion about comprehensively looking across policies, services, law enforcement practices and relationships regarding LGBTQ equality.

You can follow the links above for more information. F3 Executive Director will be crafting statements when these issues return to council, so please, let her know your thoughts on these (or other issues) by emailing dtucker@friendsofflagstaf.org
