The Navajos (in Navajo language, Diné or Naabeehó), the second largest federally recognized tribe in the United States with 300,460 enrolled tribal members as of 2015, are Native American peoples that moved into the country’s southwestern area from the Subarctic about 800 years ago.  Originally they were nomadic hunters and gatherers but they acquired farming and other cultural elements from the neighboring Pueblo peoples, and later horses, sheep, and goats from the Spanish. Today, the Navajo Nation constitutes an independent governmental body that manages the Navajo Reservation, which comprises over 27,000 square miles of land in the states of Arizona, Utah, and New Mexico. Most Navajos speak English and participate in the broader American economy, but they have also proudly maintained their own language, customs, and religion.

Los navajos (en lenguaje Navajo, Diné o Naabeehó), la segunda tribu más grande reconocida en los Estados Unidos con 300.460 miembros tribales para el año 2015, son gentes nativo-americanas que llegaron al suroeste del país desde el Sub-Ártico hace unos 800 años. Originalmente eran nómadas cazadores-recolectores pero adquirieron la agricultura y otros elementos culturales de los vecinos grupos pueblo, y luego los caballos, las ovejas, y las cabras de los españoles. Hoy en día, la Nación de los Navajos constituye un cuerpo gubernamental independiente que maneja la Reservación de los Navajos, la cual cubre alrededor de 70.000 kilómetros cuadrados de tierras en los estados de Arizona, Utah, y Nuevo México.
