July 24, 26 — City to host public meetings on Southside transportation, flooding, character and culture

FLAGSTAFF — The city of Flagstaff will host public meetings on July 24 and 26 to discuss needs and solutions in the Southside neighborhood. These discussions will inform the upcoming Southside Neighborhood Specific Plan.

The meetings will be held at the South Beaver School (506 S. Beaver Street) on July 24 and 26 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Both meetings include an optional neighborhood tour from 4:30-6:15 p.m. organized around their respective topics. Transportation for the tours will be provided and will start at the South Beaver School. Please RSVP for the tours by calling (928) 213-2615.

Each meeting will start with a provided group dinner and short presentation by staff. Stakeholders will then break into small discussion groups. The meeting on July 24 will focus on moving people and water. The small groups will discuss street design and transportation, on and off-street parking, future transportation scenarios and/or stormwater/flooding management and facilities. The meeting on July 26 will focus on strengthening the Southside community and the small groups will discuss new buildings and zoning, neighborhood character and cultural preservation, parks and green spaces and/or city properties for community services and affordable housing.

These two meetings will be the community’s third and fourth public meeting participation opportunities. Additionally, city staff has knocked on every door in the Southside neighborhood to discuss or administer a survey to residents regarding their vision, assets and issues for the neighborhood.
