LULAC Thanks A Brave American: Arizona Republican Senator Jeff Flake Calls for Healing a Divided Nation

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Domingo Garcia, National President of the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) issued the following statement on the call for a one-week delay in a floor vote by the U.S. Senate on the confirmation of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court until an FBI investigation limited in time and scope is completed.

“We applaud the sincerity of Senator Flake in acknowledging that America is in need of healing and for allowing the nomination by the Judiciary Committee to move forward with the understanding that the FBI first examine the latest allegations against Judge Kavanaugh before a vote is taken in the Senate. While the final decision on the timing of that vote rests with the Senate leadership, it nonetheless took courage and selflessness today for Senator Flake to place our country ahead of partisan politics.

LULAC calls upon Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Minority Leader Chuck Schumer to work in a bipartisan manner by allowing its members to have all the facts before them once the FBI investigation is complete so that Americans are assured Judge Kavanaugh’s confirmation process is fully transparent and fair. The role of a justice on the U.S. Supreme Court is far too important for this vote to be rushed. That would only allow a cloud of doubt to remain over Judge Kavanaugh’s impartiality and integrity if his confirmation process was seen as compromised by outside influences.

We look forward to the outcome of this investigative process by the FBI, whatever the result might be.”
